I have a 97 cyclone 1200 and its leaking oil from breather hose. I put a bolt in the hose to see if that would stop the leak. I went for a ride and noticed oil dripping from clutch cable not sure why its coming from there [confused]. I also have a dark mixture of oily soot looking fluid from exhaust pipe. I just bought the bike so im not sure of its history. any help?

Pics of the breather hose you are talking about? If it's one of the ones coming off the side of the heads on the right side. Take the bolt out they are supposed to breathe. That is the PCV type system kinda like on a car. Except they are a umbrella style valves in the heads. You can reroute them to a catch can or something of the sort. But they have to be able the breathe. Some people to the XB style rocker boxes which is a better breather system.

Welcome to the board!

thanks for the reply. its leaking a lot of oil more then it should be, it spits oil out all over the rear end. I have taken the bolt out it was just in there long enough to go down my road and after I pulled back in my drive way I noticed the clutch cable connector was leaking idk if it had too much pressure because the bolt was in the hose. its also spitting black out of exhaust. would the oil pump be the cause of this? I can send you a video via email or post pics tomorrow

Clutch cable area is a seperate oiling system called the primary. The clutch cable has a o-ring that is probably bad. The oil coming out of the exhaust could be all kinds of things. Cracked valve guide, broken ring, worn out top end, something along those lines. But I would think you would notice it smoking also.

The oil all over the back could have been from the bolt though. The pressure will build up in the oil tank and start pushing it out of the oil cap or it will start leaking out of the rocker boxes. Either way it makes a big mess when the breather system is plugged up!

there was no bolt in the breather hose when I noticed it the first time, I was messing with it to see if it would run fine with the bolt in there and that's when I noticed it leaking from the other spots, i have a video showing it spitting oil out unblocked. it doesn't smoke or feel like it has lost any power. the clutch had only started leaking after bolt was put in hose.

simply over full of oil maybe??? if the primary was over full it would push the excess out the easiest ways (vent and that clutch cable o-ring) and if the engine oil is over filled they usually pop a rocker box gasket, but if the motor is a little loose I could see it seeping past the valve seals and into the exhaust maybe. Just a thought either way check the levels.[confused]

have not checked the primary fluid level but oil level is good. rockers are not leaking, I guess ill need to pull the heads to check valves.. thanks for the reply all help is appreciated
