I've opened up my airbox thanks to Al and American Sports Bike. Just wondering would opening up the area behind the gas cap like the newer bikes give any added performance? I'm riding an '03 XB9R with a Jardine and a race ecm. All recommendations and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi sledge,
we have the same bike.Love mine how do you like the race ECM did you notice a difference. Thanks

I noticed a difference right away, not only could you hear the bike breath better, but you could feel it, its much more responsive, and just seems to run better!

I totally agree with everyother_time It smooths out the 3000~4000 rpm range. And gauging from the seat of my pants it has a bit more jump from mid range rpms as well. I recommend either the Race ecm or a custom remap. I got a steal on my ecm from a dealer that was dropping the Buell line otherwise I would have went the remap route

Hey sledge, where did you get the filter replacement for the airscoop? Does it perform any better? And how do you like that tour seat?I have the same bike, only in white.:D

I have a small question, doing an open air box, is it required to get a race ecm or custom remap or can I get by just with the open air box for awhile till I can afford the rest?

You "should" do it. Your bike will be getting more air than the stock ECM can compensate for. So it will run lean and could cause premature engine wear. Plus you wont be getting the full benefits of the intake/exhaust combination. A race ECM will help, but a custom remap is still the best. An alternative would be a "self adjusting" piggy back unit like the "Remus Powerizer" This is probably the next best option that i've found for people who can't get a remap done.
