Hey all, I am trying to wet sand some scratches on my bike down a bit as I went down a few weeks ago (nothing too serious, just some superficial scratches from being forced to try avoid a car hitting me.)

I started with 400 grit wet sand paper, and have moved to 600 grit, and the scratches seem to be mostly gone, but the plastic (obviously) isnt as shiny as it once was. Does anyone recommend a good polish to bring the shine back, or should I continue on with a finer grit paper?

You need to sand a lot finer than that before trying to polish IMO. I'd go up to 1,000, then 1,500, then 2,000. Then use rubbing compound and then polishing compound. You can probably skip the rubbing compound and jump straight to polish if you want. It should look good after that...

ok... I have #2 and #3 order already as I only have novus 1 at home...Just didnt know if there was something else I would need to try. Thanks for the suggestions! +1 to you both.

snrusnak, Where is a good place to buy wet-sand paper at those grits? Hardware stores only sell up to 600..

Automotive stores? and any brands of rubbing compound or polish compound u suggest?

Auto stores or auto paint stores will have that sand paper. I know places like auto zone have it, although it's probably over priced.

I use any compounds. I'm sure someone can recommend better ones and give more knowledge, but I just use what I have or what's on the shelf. I think what I used on my last project was turtle wax brand, and it was fine.

A pro will probably tell you to use something special, and it probably is better, but the regular, cheap stuff works.

buellybagger seems to be very knowledgeable on this topic, maybe see what he thinks as well. I'm pretty good at this for teaching myself, but I've never done it as a profession or anything like that, so I'd double check what I'm telling you.
