Quick question , anyone know the best way to remove the paint on these frames prior to polishing????????????[confused]

NO the frames are powder coated that dont work. I am doing the same. I started th passenger peg pedestals.Starting with 100 and working up to 1000. If you dont mind some small swirl marks an orbital sander makes quick work of this process.

I have used aircraft paint stripper from ace hardware to get the translucent gold off my front wheel.
Took it off with no Problem, other than the mess from the stripper ladened paint goop to get rid of.

I think it would be cool to anodize the frame!! lol could you imagine that!

I don't know about the shelf life. I bought two spray cans, used about one doing the wheel, had some left but tossed it. I think I still have the other can in storage.
As for anodizing the frame it can be done, the frame would have to be free from all contaminates, like paint powder coating stuff like that. a Hard anodize would last longer and resist scratching much better than a color anodize. That anodize will fade in the sun also.

Powder coating is more of a melted plastic powder than a paint. Would acetone maybe work on it without staining the alum?

Permetex, gasket cleaner, was recommended when i did a google search. It is supposed to work really well to remove powdercoating. Intructions said to spray the stuff and let it stay for a 10-15 minutes, during which you will see the powdercoating bubble and start peeling. Not tried it yet. BUt i am about to! Just bought a xb front rim that was powdercoated pink!! and a permetex can, i need to get the powdercoating off so that i can either get the rim powdercoated black or might try black anodizing!

I have started with the rearsets. They came out very nice. Here is some pics,

Alright firechichen. Looks like You have some experience doing this from the link you left. Yeah I constantly clean my wheels so I would hate to polish my frame for hours every month. Especially since I ride a lot. Thanks for the heads up!! :)
I might just polish smaller pieces of the bike. How do you like the rear sets that you did?

Well i like then a lot. I have a lot of time in them. i want to do the frame and then have it powder coated Clear to keep the shine. Well off to the next project. Thanks

I did half of my frame last week. It wasn't too bad. I used gasket cleaner to get most of the powder coat off & then a sander with 150 grit did most of the hard work, before wet sanding by hand & polishing. Off to the garage to do the other side!

Any good tips for stripping the annodized parts?

Looks good. The polished fram is what made wnt to even start looking at the buells and the fact that they are a harley.

How mush time you got in polishing the frame?

I will eventually end up doing mine. I thought about blasting the frame to get rid of the powder coating.

Also has anyone just polished the lips on the wheels. I have the red ones and think that polished lips would be the shiz nit on this thing.
