hey guys....need some advice.
I have an '08 XB12scg. I installed a Drummer on it, without any other modifications. I started to get a popping from the exhaust upon release of the throttle (any gear). I went ahead and took it to my local Buell dealer for the 1k service. I also had the dealer Dyno the bike and tune it (replaced plugs also). But, no dice....still pops. Any advice out there?

its probably a little lean in the first few rows of the fuel map still. well, lean may not be the right term actually but sometimes a little more fuel there can cure the popping if it bugs you.

OR

you simply have a loose connection somewhere in the exhaust track. for instance, if the header bolts come even slightly loose, they can let air in which will cause popping on decel. same is true for the connection at the torca clamp, any air = popping.

Buells are prone to pop on decel with aaftermarket pipes, mine does it bad on a heavy overrun. Its from unburnt fuel in the system. Sometimes it can be attributed to a exhaust leak in the inlet bend, you can check by putting a gloved hand over the exhaust outlet when running and checking for leaks around the inlet. Sometimes it can be from a lean map and your ecm compensating for it with a AFV correction dumping fuel but the O2 is not fast enough to see the change when you let out of the throttle leaving more fuel than can be burned off. If you had your bike dynoed its most likely the over run area in your fuel map is set rich. You can fix that with a laptop, cable, ECMspy, megalog and some online help.

I also have a Drummer on an 08 Scg and mine pops when I let of the throttle but it does run smooth so I never bothered with it. Is that pop going to affect anything in the long run?

I am having the same issue. Yesterday I decreased the values on zone 2 of the fuel map (override). From what I understood It was actually from the mixture being a little to rich. It seemed to help a little.

Thanks for all the feedback! :)

I spoke with Kevin Drummer (btw, he gives great support for his product) and he suggested some of the same things. I will first make sure that I have the headers firmly secured in the pipe inlet. I will then run the bike for 15-20 min (idle). Ride for about 15-20 min with rotating RPM's from 3200 to 4000. He said this should help tremendously.

Letting it idle that long isn't necessary; it'll have your headers glowing from the excessive heat and probably foul your plugs. Let it idle long enough to gear up and it's ready to ride. Saves your gas and your plugs. :)[up]
