Hello all! I am currently considering purchasing a Buell Blast, and I have a couple ??? Before I do. First off, this bike will mainly for my wife to ride because I already have a bike, she had a ninja 250 and we just had to sell it. So she needs an upgrade, an I have always loved the looks of Buells.

1. What are some main issues/quirks with these bikes (blasts) that I need to look for when I find a bike?

2. Is this a good deal? http://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/2476374329.html

Thanx for all of your help!

depending on how much he needs money you might be able to knock a little off his asking price. The pre 03 years had an issue with motor mounts where the engine would fall out of the bike. And the rubber intake boot has a tendency to dry rot leaving you with a vacuum leak(cheap/easy fix). They are also kind of known for their false nuetrals, at least I have heard quite a few guys complain about them(make sure the clutch is proplerly adjusted and shift like you mean it). Very economical dependable bike, don't expect to be comfortable on it though. The search function on the forum is a little screwwy and This discussion has been had alot on here, so if your looking for any more info do a buallxb google search for your key words blast, clutch, motor mount and so on. Good luck.

seems a little high even with low miles. got my wifes 03 blast for 700. has 21,000 on it though and not perfect shape but good shape

how comfortable was she on the ninja 250. i wouldnt consider a blast an upgrade. if she is good on a bike get her an XB9 if you want to get a buell.

yea i dont think blasts are much faster than ninja 250's. i can get 95 out of my wifes but it takes a while to get there

Agreed on skipping the Blast. If she spent some decent seat time on the Ninja she should be OK on an XB9. The 9 has quite a bit more power than the 250 but it's VERY easy to control. The XB9 is a very "beginner friendly" bike. If you're just looking for something inexpensive that Blast looks nice, if maybe a little overpriced. Tell them you you can be there with $1500 in hand and you may get it. I wouldn't go over $1800 though.

I agree with the other posters the blast isn't a upgrade vs the 250 ninja are comparable.
Blast are great beginner bikes but she has alreadry had one of those.
For a little more you likely can find a xb9 for 3-4000.

I'd look for an XB9 or a similar 600cc class bike as an upgrade. The Blast is a beginner's bike.
