i put the bike in 5th and rotate the wheel by hand. hard, yes, but doable.
a cool trick i just learned from another Bueller (damn, i forget his nic) is to find the tight spot during one of your checks/adjustments, then clean the chain really well in that spot and mark it with a Sharpie. the mark will last for the next few checks no sweat. makes readjustment super easy 'cause you know where the tight spot is.
i just readjusted my primary before a track day last week or so... i still use the method of finding the tight spot, then pushing up hard until the bottom of the chain is even with the inspection window. this method probably leaves it a little on the loose side, but its worked for 10K plus. YMMV
