Just got done changing the oil and the fluid in the primary. I noticed the it was leaking a little around the inspection cover and a little around the clutch adjustment cover. I bought new gaskets but they are very different than what was on the bike. The ones on the bike are rubber and have a little lip on the outside of them that fits into the cover. The replacement gaskets are just regular flat gaskets. They line up and would fit but I was too nervous to use them. I decided to reuse the rubber ones because the fit with the covers but I assume it will still leak a little with the rubber ones. Is there a different part number for the rubber ones? Anyone have any thoughts or run into the same issue?

I got tired of buying that gasket over and over. I went to an auto parts store and got some high temp gasket seal and I haven't had a problem since.

i have the flat ones on my xb9, and used them 2-3 times, sealant is good, just get the bolts tight

So its normal that the original gaskets are the rubber ones? I assume you are putting the RTV between the gasket and the side of the motor?

I wonder if there is a different part number for the rubber ones? I guess I can check that and get some RTV, that should solve my problem one way or another.

Jeepin, what exact year is your firebolt/or XB9 (Some) of the thick Paper style/gaskets.One side is slightly beveled. You will see(on the factory)gasket a very small white mark on the flat side. It goes to the outside.the three hole clutch cover is the one i am talking about.the primary chain inspection cover i cheat on with a Very small amount of [Red RTV] high Temp. sealant with a clean surfice .I only put the sealant on the cover side not the primary itself. I have a Shop and can't afford the call backs so i try to do a little extra. Haven't seen a rubber gasket in a while. So far so good.

my gasket is the paper material. no RTV or other sealant. no leaks. 2 oil changes, plus however many the last guy did after he put the gaskets on.

My bike is a 03 XB9R. The new paper gaskets are slightly beveled (not perfectly flat). I am just concerned because they are very different that the rubber ones. Would they fit, yes, but I dont know that I want to take the chance with them because they are so different. Even the RTV route with the paper ones I see making a mess more than anything. If the covers were flat on the inside I would be fine with the paper ones. Since they have that groove for the rubber to sit in I just dont know what the best way to change them is.

Jeepin79,don't worry the paper ones work really good. As long as the white small mark is facing the outside. ON my own bike i don't AS OF YET need any sealant at all. The Factory came up with the paper ones so as to cut cost and be able to pass this on . Just imagine what the cost would be. Another tid bit for you, the primary Gets at times 300,degrees and up. That rubber gasket would not last long. Warping and leaks would AND did happen a lot. SO the fiber hard gasket was the result. I actually had to re-use the clutch adj.,gasket last servicing. I orderd 25 count this time last time i serviced her its been 2,844miles & a very tiny bit of seepage so just don't over tighten too much. The new paper style is good. Make that 24 gaskets. [smirk]
