Got another noob question. I'm in the process of tightening my primary chain and I'm wondering if there is a better way to check deflection through the inspection window. Its really hard to get anything in there for reference.

Its a pain but you have to make sure you adjust from the tightest position. The best way is to put the bike in 5th gear and roll it forward checking the chain every few inches. I use a tongue depressor with 3/8 and 1/2 inch marked on it. It is a pain in the butt but I have not seen anything better.
 
yeah I hear my prim. chain slapping on idle. At least that is what I think it is.. kinda like a soft knock from the primary. I checked it about 2k miles ago and could not find a good way to measure either.. Guess I'll try the TD too >
