Anyone one know of problem years if there are any on the xb12r? I have 3 in mind, an 07 with 5k mi $5500, 09 with 650mi $6000, or 06 with unknown miles $4150.

any input would be great.

thanks!

The 09 will have the bigger crank pin and updated ign and oiling system. But nothing wrong with 06 and 07 models either. The "problem" years are the early ones 04 but they really didnt have too many problems either. Good luck.

Thanks guy! I had a 03 lightning and it had a weird knock in the engine. looking to get back on a buell. just found out the 06 has 28k mi, leaning towards the 09 bc it only has 650mi hoping he will go down a little. though i like the 06 bc its red with blk frame.

thanks again!

I wouldn't hesitate on that '09. I bought my '09 just a couple months before the shutdown, so I still owe well over what you can buy that one for, and I have 11k miles on mine!

having owned an 04,05,07 and 09 models... i can tell you that the 09 model is the smoothest of the xb. not smooth enough to bore you, but certainly smoother than the previous models... as mentioned it has a different crank etc. the clutch is a little lighter as well.

big difference is the finish. the 09/10 have blacked out features. i prefer that as when you look at earlier buells you will see all different colour metal finishes. from the different fork bottom to tops, engine to case, frame and seat rails... they are all different. i think i counted 5 or 6 different shades. never liked that personally. hence why i have an 09 now.

but saying all that, somehow the earlier model has a better note! maybe just me, but seems to rumble more.

- Bar Ends, Primary, and swing arm to see if it's been laid down.
- Ride if possible or let them ride it till it's warm - listening for engine noise and idle.
- Of course ask about regular oil changes and what type.
- Ask of any mods - ECM, intake, exhuast, etc.
