My XB build has been finished for years. Will never sell her. This build was done to keep my competitive side in check since I won't tear up the canyons anymore. After racing middleweight with CVMA for three years on the Daytona I had my fair share of get offs. 4 total, 3 of which ended with me breaking something. Had an absolute blast, made tons of new friends and learned a lot about what it takes to go fast. Unfortunately the risk vs reward factor kicked in and I decided to stop road racing. Fear of a debilitating injury ending my career with the Highway Patrol crept in. I kept going to the races and watched my dad and pit buddies race, but was it was definitely not the same experience. Club racing typically has a high attrition rate. I was the first of our pit group to go, but one by one most of the group followed suit until it was only Cody and my dad left. My father passed away in January last year and that pretty much killed my trips to the track. About a year passed and for the most part a never ending group text was the only interaction I had with my racing crew. I still had the competitive itch and wanted to see my buddies more often so I decided to dabble in the mini endurance racing scene. Figured it was a good way to get everyone together, have fun and do it at a reduced risk of injury. I had a TTR 125 collecting dust in the garage which is perfect for formula 5 and encouraging because a TTR was the overall winner of the 24 hour race last year. So project mini moto began.
Build.
Engine: ported/polished heads with larger valves , BBR cam, forged piston, lightened flywheel.
Intake/exhaust: full Yosh exhaust, larger 26mm carb, larger BBR air filter and airbox mod.
Brakes: KTM 520 Brembo master cylinder, steel braded lines, performance pads, and a 230mm front floating rotor kit.
Suspension/chassis: BBR frame cradle/support, YZ 85 front end conversion sprung/valved/shortened for weight and application, Works rear shock, 12" wheels w/slicks.
It was a fun little project and came out great.
About a 50% increase in power over stock.
Our first race was in January, a 5 hour team race at Grange in Apple Valley, CA. We ended up winning our class and got 4th overall out of 30+ bikes, only bested by two CRF 150R's and a KX 65. Had a blast, crashed once in the rain, but little bike little crash and no injury. We still have a 7 hour, 24 hour and a 365 lap race left this season. If you're interested in low cost racing I'd definitely try the mini scene. Awesome group of people.
