Has anyone tried this and is it even a good idea? I'm thinking of doing maybe an undertail exhaust and starting with a newer stock, CBR exhaust. What do you think the sound would be like?

Is this just dumb or am I onto something.

THOUGHTS...

I saw an under tail done on a buell once, and it looked awesome, the functionality of a pipe running there with the huge amount of heat would be a hard one to figure out. Check out the link for pics.

Firebolt Undertail

Interesting.

Sometimes being impulse is a good thing. Just scored a Ducati 999 exhaust for 45 shipped. Hopefully I can make this happen.

Were you planning on cutting into the tail a little? The stock exhaust on a cbr is pretty big, and Buells are pretty small/compact. It could definitely be cool if you worked it out right. If you just stick the stock exhaust under the stock tail I think it would look a little out of place.

Are you planning on doing any internal work to the exhaust? I assume it would sound like a stock Buell if you had the cbr exhaust in original shape. If you cut it up a little bit like people do to the buell exhausts you might be able to give it that harley sound that you can get from a Hawk or other pipes.

The bike in that link looks cool, but it still looks like he has a full exhaust packed under the motor too. It's like he put another exhaust after the original one.

with the way that firebolts' exhaust is setup has a custom muffler under it(stock position) with another pipe come out of it and routed around and over the swing arm then under the tail . now not only will you have heat on your right leg , but now also on your left foot right next to it. Hot hot foot. plus there is no other real way of routing the pipe other than how they have it, except running pipes on both or either side(but the right side makes it hard to routing pipe out of muffler because of belt and pulley in the way), because there is really no room to route a pipe from under seat , and under the seat is just three exhaust tips welded together to the pipe, it is not a muffler under the seat..

i would say that this firebolt may sound like a more muffled stock exhaust maybe a little better but like the others said if you put on a cbr muffler it would just sound like stock or way worse .
In my opinion i think the firebolt above would be the way to go if you want pipes under the tail, but I dont care much for the look but it looks a HELL of alot better than in jap bike under tail exhaust,
to me and probably most other under tail exhaust is just not a BUELL look.

if you really want undertail exhaust on a buell that would look great and fit best and look right, checkout Eriks' patent here but you goota wait for it & $$$$$$..

I hadn't put much thought into it besides it might look pretty cool (if done right). This is what I won on ebay. I know I've got alot of work ahead of me, not sure about gutting it. I'll see how easy it might be.

2003 Ducati 999 Exhaust

Yep Flaya there's a picture of an XB with that exhaust on it, and the rear seat cowl that goes over it. Did you post that pic?
He used the lower peg assy. from a Ulysses and it looks like they're spaced out to allow the pipes to snake around to the rear.
I don't have it here at work but I can post it later if you want.

Do it do it do it

Alright man, I'll post it in this thread when I get home tomorrow.

I tried to get the original poster to put up some larger or additional pics but the thread died.

The picture I have is small, but you can pic out the main points.

I'll post it soon

I would think that adding all that extra pipe and whatnot would end up creating a pretty restricting exhaust system, just my opinion tho.

You know sometimes...when you look at something and think...it ain't that big...

Good lord that's a big exhaust! I may be over my head on this one.

Don't be scared dude. You're going to have to gut the tail section for fitments sake. I think that guy is using a ducati taillight because the new muffler occupies the space that the stock brake light did.

Can anyone I.D. the seat subframe? Is it an SS, Uly?

Best thing you can do for us is photograph the muffler sitting in or on the tail without a seat. It'll give us a sense of scale.

It looks like this guy used the 999S seat too.
The Uly peg assemblies are obviously cut and weld to widen them a wee bit.

Maaaaan... If you were close, like Sac or something. We'd get that bish knocked out.

Keep us informed and we can all try to help out.

Just curious as to why your wanting to do this since part of the Buell ideaology is a low center of gravity and this will obviously go against that. Is this Just for the sake of being different ? Just wondering .[confused]

I've always liked the look of an exhaust exiting the tail and have felt that this part of our bikes were an after-thought. It's functional but not stylish. After looking at the size of this muffler though, I'm second guessing myself. Thinking I may resell the exhaust.
