Ok so my Firebolt XB12R that I just picked up a few days ago... got a few questions concerning it...

Does anyone else's throttle have a little play in it. Mine seems like it almost moves 1/4" before it starts to engage.

Also does anyone else have an extra heel guard for the passenger on the right side? I hadnt noticed when I bought the bike but its missing on mine. I'll probably just take the other side off until I can get some others. I want to get some carbon fiber ones but I need to wait on some money before I can do that.

check out one of the service manuals. there is a link at the top of the page. there is a section about throttle cable adjustment in it.

there are some heel guards on buellsterparts.com i think for a decent price

remove the air box cover to get to the adjusters, you can also make some adjustment on the bar.
i removed bolth passenger guards and my wife has not complained in 2 years.

Americansportbike sells carbon ones. Just message Al (owner of ASB) for questions concerning the carbon heel guard. Good quality parts and great customer service at ASB.

I wouldn't mess with taking off the airbox to adjust the throttle. There are 2 cables that run to the throttle. Lightly roll the throttle backwards just until you feel it start to make contact and then tighten the cable that is closer to the front of the bike. If you tighten it too much the throttle will be forced to stay open slightly and will rev too high. Just tighten it until it makes contact and then back off of it slightly. You do want a little bit of play in your throttle, as long as it's not too much.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll let you know what I found out about getting it fixed.

To add to upthemaiden's post- If you mistakenly remove all slack in your throttle and end up with even a slightly positive throttle setting, any subsequent TPS reset procedure will be off since the throttle plate never actually closes completely, no matter how far you back the adjustment screw (it would also have the same impact on the newer '08+ electronic TPS resets). Therefore, an improperly adjusted throttle can throw your TPS reset off, which in turn could leave your bike running like poop. Most troubleshooters would start changing plugs, doing breather re-routes, blaming their new exhaust, etc., and never check the throttle adjustment to see if it's off. It's just not an obvious factor. If I'm doing a TPS reset for friends I always check the throttle play first.

To the OP- 1/4" in throttle play is excessive IMO and indicates that the cables need adjustment. Just remember to leave a tiny bit of play.
