in the red circle i noticed that alot of peoples bike has this hole but when i look at mine there is a welded piece in they way. mine is a 2006 firebolt. is this year specific or some sort of frame mod

Year specific, on the earlier models.

later models had the frame hole welded shut to increase cfel capacity. I guess that hole in the frame didn't really provide much air to the intake...?

My 2005 has the hole.

I may be wrong, but that hole may have been intended for a turbo duct. I recall seeing something about a Diablo project a while back, 150+ hp at the wheel on one.

Is that the same year the air box got the screen added by the fuel cap? Seems like similar opening size if they were compensating for the loss of intake volume from filling the tank hole.
