Hey guys, I wanted to check the timing on my bike. I moved the timing back due to slight pinging at higher rpms. But now it seems like my top end ahs been effected.

Anyways, which indicator marks the factory timing? One website said it was two dots and another said it was a single dot.

Thanks

Neither. The factory timing mark is a slot on the flywheel. You don't set the timing to deal with a pinging issue like it's some old busted Chevy, you set it with that slot straight up, no matter what, and deal with the ping issue by rectifying whatever is causing that. The cam sensor needs to trip as that flywheel slot is perfectly centered in the hole, and it DOES matter which cylinder is approaching TDC. Follow the FSM to the letter and you'll be fine.

Remember, the timing controls BOTH injection and ignition events. If the timing is moved from straight up, you're advancing or retarding both events, and that's bad for a number of reasons.

Set the timing as straight-up as you can get it, and then try higher grade fuel, different heat range on the spark plugs, a nice long highway drive to eliminate carbon from the combustion chamber, etc. to deal with the ping.
