R to S tail swap problem

I've been searching to see if anyone else has had this problem but I have failed to find it. I have a brand new S tail I ordered from Harley, but my problem is that the bolt holes don't line up! WTF?! I'm not sure where to go with this. Anyone else had this problem? How do I fix this, I have too much money invested in this tail to abandon ship!!

Hmmm, the S and R frames are the same for every year as far as the XB's are concerned.

take a couple pictures to show what isn't lining up? I mounted mine not one problem.

It sound like you´ve got a Ss- or STT- tail....

mate... certainly you should have no problem if you have bought S side rals and fitting to your R. did you try fitting each side rail individually and then the tail section? or did you bolt all bits together first and then tried to fit too frame?

the way i did it was each side rail loosly screw 'finger tight first' then the tail piece, finger tight'. checked over hte bits and slotted the tail undertray was fitted... then went over and tighteneded everything.

like extreme has said... maybe some pics. as something doesnt seem right?

twoguns is right on as it all needs to be pieced together or at the very least loosely pieced together then bolted on.

extreme... yours is an Ss tail right? so that shouldnt be an issue either. not sure about Stt, but i would think that the same as the Ss.

mine was a S tail. dont think there are any other year changes to question...

Nope has a S tail with Ss swing arm on the Bolt

well even then if it was the other way round... if you had no trouble with a Ss swing arm and S tail, then kyle shouldnt have an issue the other way.

worth a double check kyle.

If you just take the frame rail and place it on the frame and the holes don´t line up then you don´t have a S-tail.

Ss- and STT don´t have the same mounting points as the R or S.

I got very confused at first when i had ordered a S- tail and got a STT tail. I returned it and much later got the right part and it lined up perfectly

Dammit, he parts numbers are adding up for an Ss! The damn Harley dealer errrr take them back and get me the right ones!!! SOB!!

The ss subframe mounts are wider. The part where you can see the shock and brake reservoir is larger than on my old s.

Hopefully your only loosing time and no money.

Tell Harley to put a hurry on it, ***** gotta get done riding seasons just around the corner!!

Called the dealer, I'm going there tomorrow to take the wrong parts back and get the correct ones. THey said harley was shut down because of 4ft snow or something like that so I prob won't be till next week before they ship the new ones, again.

Just took the wrong rails back and ordered the correct ones, the dealer pick up the tab on the difference. Only bad thing is, they are on back order till the 18th
