Hi, I have a stock 08 XB12XT and I have picked up a 2nd hand race muffler. If I put it on without changing or remapping ECM, will my bike run bad / lean? If it does run lean, can that do damage to my engine? Any information appreciated.

Do you have a stock intake? The 08+ can handle either a intake or muffler...not both. Just to the learn-in ride and let the ecm adjust for your new muffler.

Just my 2cents, but my xb9s has almost 56,000kms on it and i have a race muffler and airfilter. Stock ECM. No issues with the way it runs. Runs fantastic, no hesitations or idle probs or stumbling. Just get on and ride.During rebuild i even used the original pistons, and replaced the rings and honed the cyls. And that was after 53000kms. Pistons still good!
I understand the lust for more power, but i feel bad for all with fueling issues.
I love the look of the race muffler too..:)

Thanks guys, I'm going to go ahead and put it on. I'm not realy after more power - just a better sound. The stock muffler is sooo quiet.

I was in the same situation, I bought a pipe from Hawk and a K&N filter but wasn't able to get the new map put on my bike for a while. I talked to Randy about it and he said that with the stock air filter on it wouldn't hurt anything. I've had my bike that way for at least a month now because my bike doesn't want to load a new map. Everything runs fine.
