changing plugs today and cant seem to break the rear plug loose. anyone have this problem? how much torque should i use to try to get it loose?

How are you attempting to get it out with? A wrench or ratchet with a spark plug socket? I used a set of matco spark plug swivel sockets. My rear plug was tight but I managed to bust it loose.

I'm using a 5/8 deepwell and a swivel with an extension. its just super tight and i dont want to break anything, but it has to come out so i think im just going to have to muscle it out

Sounds like someone either cross threaded it in, or the threads came off the plug.

at least it is coming out. You could be lucky and it is just corroded somehow or it could be your socket rubbing against something which is making it harder to turn. If you do not want to mess with it anymore just put it back in and have shop do it if you are scared of it stripping. That way its there if you need an overhaul on the head.

Are you the only owner? have you replaced them before?

spray some wd-40 on it let it sit then thread it in then out going back and forth until it loosens and comes out

Ok, I have gotten the plugs changed. When I did the front cylinder the plug was loose, it had about 1/4" of the threads exposed. Got the new front in and went to the rear. When I finally got the rear to come out it had what looked like never seeze in a few of the threads. It turned out to be metal that came out with the plug. I put the new rear plug in and torqued it to spec. Now hopefully the rear threads werent damaged to much during the removal process.

I forgot, the bike has about 12000 miles on it and they appeared to be the factory HD plugs, now they are NGK iridiums

cool beans. glad it worked out. how did it go while you were putting it back in. was it tight or easy?

this. That will tell you how f'ed or not f'ed your head is. If it went in smooth make sure to recheck the torque after 20 miles or so just incase there are threads missing.

It went in smooth, but not sloppy smooth. I'm actually going to recheck the torque on both cylinders after I go for a short ride.

Update, I checked the plugs today and they are still tight. However, the bike didnt want to start and I cranked it for probably 15 seconds before it started. I took it for a 25 minute ride and it ran perfectly. When I got home I tried to start it again and it didnt want to start. Anyone know why?
