rear wheel bearings and long trip prep help.

Kind of last minute here.... Leaving next Thursday with a buddy for a 2500 mile trip. I just got a 06 Uly with 12,000 miles on it and my buddy will be in my old 2005 XB9SX with 17,000 miles. I will be replacing fuel pump, filter, o2 sensor and spark plugs on my Uly, his bike already had all that new. Is there anything else I should look for or do to either bike before the trip?

I also just read about the rear wheel bearing problems. I checked my Uly and it has the orange seals and I'm sure the lightning does as well. Can anyone tell me where to get replacement wheel bearings by this weekend for both bikes? Does all balls make a kit? I have a Miller bearing shop across the street from my house so if I can get bearings that way that would be the best route for me.

My 08 had orange ones and at 33000kms I thought I was OK.

Till I got stranded this past weekend and 1 1/2 hours away from home in rural areas.
Just replace them - better safe than sorry.

Can't tell you what to get, as I am in a different continent.
But I just went to bearing specialist with samples, got new rear ones for less than US$10.
Doing the front this coming weekend.

So you just walked into a bearing store and they had them in stock? Maybe I'll jack the bike up tonight and try and get them out.....

You wouldn't happen to have the part numbers on the new bearings would you?

They are FAG bearings.

Invoice description reads:
Deep Groove Ball Bearing
Product Code: 6006_2RSR_FAG

I think I've got it... The bearings are 6006-2rs1. Now the question... Regular steel bearings or stainless steel? I can get regulars for $12 for 2 or stainless for about $50 for two. I rider my bike daily so hopefully the bearings will be constantly covered in grease and have no chance of corrosion starting but I don't know if that's true.

And am I correct that there are no seals that need to be replaced as well?

the seals are part of the bearing. Thats what the 2rs1 suffix is for.

Get regular steel. The stainless have less load capacity and if there is that much moisture in the grease you have problems anyway. Im surprised you even have the option.

Also, bring extra mini fuses. Ive blown an ignition fuse before and its real handy to have a spare.

I think they are the same through 09. I just called a local bearing shop and they have them in stock for $10 piece.

fronts are different. do them too. be aware of the throttle shaft issue on the 06-07 model. mine just broke at 34k km. was stuck in a isolated area too. seems to be a regular thing on 06/07 with 30000+ km on
