I need to rebuild the top end on my xb12x and keep it as cheap as poss. I have some light scoring on the cylinders and pistons so honing and new rings won't quite do it. It seems I either need new stock Buell pistons and Jugs or clean up what I have.can my stock Jugs be bored and are pistons avail.I would rather not do this but it may be the difference in riding this summer or not.Its this or new stock parts from Harley. Whats your take on this and is there another option available I don't know about.Any advice is appreciated.

im not sure about boring out your cylinders... but i know the liners can be pressed out and ndw liners pressed in...

i have a good set of stock cylinders i would sell as well...

or NRHS Performance has a bolt on 1250 big bore kit for $700 that includes everything... both cylinders(diff color options) both pistons (choose brand) all the gaskets and seals you will need...

i have one of their kits in my bike and absolutly love it... and NRHS has the best service out there, for me at least...

If the marks are above the ring sealing surface you are fine. Have a mechanic measure the cylinders and pistons and if its within wear limits you can just hone and re-ring but if it was mine while the heads are off a valve job would be done.

mr hyde, the cyls are boreable,by up to .030".factory pistons are the lightist, weisco makes them also.I have the 1250 kit from nrhs in my sportster. In my buell I would make sure to keep the compression at 10:1 .as the domed pistons and the thinner head gaskets that came with the kit gave me 11:1.Even w/ my fcr carb and tunable se ignition it was hard to tune out the ping under hard excel..So I wouldnt do the same to my xb which would be a tuning nightmare.Your heads ,check the valves and seats for pits, burns, or scratches. If they dont have any,you can lap them w/ fine compound,if there damaged they need to be recut. Also check the guides for slop, they say our xb guides last long w/ the stock cams, but if there worn you will have to get them replaced,as well as the seats recut. If there ok just replace the seals and your good to go.The motor is simple to work on,in fact the longest part of the job will be droping and rotating it to work on.any more questions, get back to me.I answered your post yesterday, when i returned today it was no longer up.So i hope you get this one.
