So for those of you that haven't had exposure, I changed over my big twin evolution using Joses XB rocker box mod. It came out of necessity because I had some heads from a 1992 big twin evolution that were not headbreathing, and I had a case that was not casebreathing. I figured using his mod would take care of that issue, and I was right.
So that being said, upon my research, I noticed how stupid expensive buell parts are. That Viton grommet sucks so much donkey **** and is so expensive, along with the $27 turret PCV valve which my gas tank doesn't have clearance for.
I built a cheaper one from parts from an automotive store and it works great (so far) on my big twin, and if it can take the heat from that, I can guarantee it'll take the heat from the small twins.
Anways, simply put:
Viton Grommet - Dorman 42049 - The 42059 is the direct replacement and looks like the older orings used before they changed the design. The 42049 has bigger lips on both sides of the grommet so what it lacks in the new design it makes up for in size to seal. No modification is necessary.
PCV Valve - Any of the metal ones that look similar to this as they are all similar in diameter at the base: They push right in and you can just run hose for where you need to go if you have the clearance between it and your tank
I did not have the clearance so I had to change the system a bit -
This is a Dorman 47037 PCV elbow with the barbed end chopped off so it would give clearance for the tank
1-2" length of 5/8" internal diameter rubber hose
The PCV Valve I mentioned above except this one came with a prefitted 90* connection
And then I had them meet at a T under the frame and go down to a drain line.
Here's what they look like on the bike:
It is simple stuff, and it'll save you tons over ordering from harley...just my .02, but with the absence of buell parts more and more just thought I'd share. I had a Buell Blast (traded in), a Buell X1 (stolen), and a Buell Ulysses (totalled not my fault though), so I miss this community a bit. The harley guys just laugh at me and tell me this stuff "isn't possible." I figured I'd prove them wrong.
