i wanna rewrap my exhaust because i did with it on and it kinda looks retartd i started to take header off and i cant get to the one nut on the back head any suggestions and how do you guys hold your exhaust wrap on?

1/4" drive swivel socket. kinda sux... but don't worry, it's harder to get it back on lol.
I haven't wrapped my Buell pipes but on my HD I used the silver metal clamps that were holding my heat shields on.

yea and don't use the 3/8" extension with an adapter, easier with the 1/4" extension to go along with it. More room to work with.

I'm not trying to ruin your day, but I did this several weeks ago and if I EVER EVER do it again I will do the engine rotate and do it right with less cursing :) Getting the header back on after you wrap it is not so fun. You think that nut is hard to twist off? It's even harder to get it started to twist back on....just sayin ;) It is possible to use the "short cut" method, but I feel like it took me longer with all the wasted time trying to work in cramped areas.

I used regular hose clamps for the areas hidden, and one metal zip tie which is exposed. It's all nice and black after the silicone spray.

Engine rotation in DIY section is what you need.

Very careful with the stud. I use a hand held impact drive tool for that job.

Personally don't like wraps but you didn't ask that.

I don't know what he likes, but if I ever go to the trouble of pulling to header off I'm going to send it somewhere to get ceramic coated.

That provides some insulation to keep the exhaust temps up, but it also provides corrosion resistance and keeps the header looking good.

what do you like amarchangel ?
Peace, love and understanding.

1190RS.

I also like that gold look of polished headers but if I was going to polish metal, I'd buy an ultra-glide.

1- remove seat
2- remove chin faring
3- remove muffler
4- remove left bolt on dog bone support on regulator bracket
5- remove rss, remove bolts for lss let scoop hang
6- remove bolts for v/regulator bracket
7- remove header bolts
8- unplug o2 connector by reaching through hole under seat
9- using 7/8 crows foot remove o2 sensor
10- pull header flange away from studs, pull out on front header tube and rotate front tube counterclockwise so it faces straight up and remove header.
if you dont have a crows foot
lift rear of bike and place blocks under rear muffler mount.
11- remove rear shock and lay next to battery
12- remove fan grill and fan bolts
13- slide fan down approx 4 inches no need to unplug fan
14- using o2 socket remove o2 sensor and perform step 10

sorry no pictures the first 10 steps takes about 30 mins all 14 may be 50

the firebolts are a little harder to get to the o2 sensor and may need to loosen the tail

fwiw, on the 'bolt, I left the o2 sensor on, it didn't interfere with removal or assembly.

If you have to take it off, wait until you have the header free.

there are few header removal how-to threads on here! here are the ones with out having to tilt/rotate the engine down , easy stuff,

rear stud nut slipped into rubber or vinyl hose really eases starting it on the first thread or 2 upon reassembly. same thing you do for reinstalling spark plugs.

Thanks for the posting the info guys!

quadracer711, are you doing the wrap for heat shielding, or for looks?
'Cause if you're doing it for heat shielding, you might want to try the heat shield that was on the 2008 Ulysses onwards. I have it on my XB12R, probably not as good as wrapping the headers, but gets the heat dispersion down to acceptable levels.
