After finally getting to the stator i notice the little rivet/flat screw that holds the piece of plastic on the top of the stator has come out and pretty much tore my stator to shreds. does that little metal piece have a known issue backing out or was i just unlucky? i assume the plastic breaking was due to the piece coming out or vice versa. i have pictures if you want to see them. anyone have any issues like this in the past? i dont' want to install a new one only to see that thing fall out again and tear up this stator. although I'm kinda relieved that its only that and not actually a fried stator.

common failure. once the pin gets pulled out, the stator is destroyed.
image shows old vs. new clip.

Is that a new design or just used vs unused?
It makes me feel better about the stator failing that it wasn't burned up. I had major issues with burned stators on my triumph.
I have got everything put back together today and getting good voltage output again. It's good to be back.

left: old, used
right: new, unused, removed just in time, after turning over by hand
