wouldn't bee too hard really, there is plenty of space in the R fairing to put your wiring. The R has all electronics up front where as yours is all in the tail. Unless you can find some used, a new fairing mount is $130, plus plastic, plus windscreen ($80), an lights, $170, also top tripple and bars I would assume
S to R shouldn't be hard at all. Most of the wiring is in the tail of the S. I would imagine that it's just a matter of putting the leads on the lights for the R fairing and getting it mounted correctly. From what I've read, going from R to S is the real PITA.
Has anyone done this? I'd like to see a pic to see how the S bars look with an R fairing.
The fairing aspect would be a direct bolt up, you also need the R upper tree clamp along with the bars. Not positive on tge mentioned above ignition whether you could modify it or not to work but all in all you would have no real issues as the S has basically nothing up front to get in the way.
Going from a R to an S on the other hand is a pain in the ass, been there done that and basically you have to swap out wiring harness or modify the stocker, so consider yourself lucky
Well iam thinking about it...Im a teen I like going fast (70 no more than 90 very very rare) and the only reason i bought an S was insurence.
So iam looking around $500+ then
I might end up saving that unless someone wants to meet up and trade. Prolly a full couple day process iam gratefull though it would be 10x better than R to S
as for the key you have two options. use a car key that uses a 4 wire setup, twin toggle switches, a type r key or blast key same part different prices (wth right) other than that you will need lights. I used 2.75 inch fog lights on a alum bracket I made from a strip of alum from home depot. said and done it ran 250.00 getting used parts from ebay. I purchased the stay new from the dealer for 95.00 I think.
This is basically what your bike would look like minus the Ss swing arm.
this was my old bike in the works of removing the wiring harness to convert it to a S, ended up being a huge was of time as I decided to rewire it to stock and just chop the fairing.
you got an 1125 insurance for the same as an r? that seems jacked up, I would think the R should have lower insurance but they go by engine cc instead of actually thinking about the difference in the motors
Iam not 100% tech savy but I do have some help...although he isnt the best all the time we both dont know much about buells (17 first bike 2months later buell close)
It really is rare to go over 100 i like my torque
So you guys got faith that its a 1 week job probably
If you get the parts and just set aside time and do it, should take more then 5hrs. I dismantled the front of my R in less than an hour. Since you have less to take off and very few wiring, shouldn't take long at all. If you are going to do a lot of rewiring, that wil take the longest amount of time.
Good luck, hope to see some pics before and after.
I need some good Justifacations to do it...i went from 8k to 2k and now iam almost to 4k all withen 6months (buying the bike cleaning it and service then performance)
If i make my own stablizer should i wait and do that after the swap?
and i really need a new car for college my hand me down free bee 95 chevy bretta wit 186k miles is getting old
Ya It may be a few weeks though i need to get outta HS and on my summer job and FFA business then ima be working on my bike some...Ill remember that though keiser thanks.
Has anyone done an S to R that could help me out with info/instructions
