Ok ... so ... here we go ... Looks like I've got myself a read headscratcher here ...

My S1 was adapted to a dual fire ignition system at some point before I bought it ... and since i've got it I've managed to get the carbs working great; it will crank, rev, and idle absolutely perfect ... however, When I put the bike in gear and go to release the clutch the bike's ignition will cut out and it will die even if you have it revved up ... I was leaning towards any of the interlock switches being the culprit but... the side stand switch has been bypassed ... and I bypassed the clutch interlock switch myself ... the neutral switch works just fine .... any ideas? ... the bike only has 3800 miles on it ... i've been staring at wiring diagrams for a few days now but i'm honestly baffled ....... i have no idea what's going on ... it's like the ignition loses it's ground or power when you release the clutch ....

Holy **** I'm an idiot *facepalm*.... from .... FROM ..... it was adapted FROM a dual fire setup to a single fire ...

It's just too early in the morning for me to function ... I cannot brain this early, I haz the dumb before 8 AM ...

Hmmm ......

*gets up and goes to sit in a different seat*

*clears throat* ....... Say yo brah!! ... you should like, totally like, check the sidestand switch or like maybe the clutch interlock swtich or some **** like that yo!! .....

*runs back to previous seat*

*points in general direction of other seat* ....... Excellent suggestion random citizen!!! ..... however comma, these interlocks have already been bypassed ..... hence my confusion on said subject ....

*gets up and goes back to another seat*

Say there old chap!! ... have you mayhaps botched the bypasses ? ... the whole thing sounds bugger'd to me if I do say so ... hmm ... yes .... quite ..... *rubs chin thoughtfully* ...

*runs back to original seat*

*points foot towards random chair* ...... Yet another excellent point !!! .... and even though your british accent is absolutely terrible, I've already confirmed the bypasses to be functional .... sooo ....... next suggestion ...

*runs to another seat*

*signs, "You should just torch the thing and buy a Jap bike" in ASL*

Lol I'll break out the checkerizer to make sure I have the right voltage/wattage whenever I get home today ...

One second ... let me see if I can highlight the bypasses on this computer ...

This is what I'm basing most of my logic as far as figuring out what to check from it's description of what affects the interlocks on the ignition side ...

These highlighted parts are what I have bypassed ... the neutral switch works fine so there's no need to bypass it ...

It most definitely sounds like your sidestand switch. Check further down the wires for continuity to make sure your jumper is working.

On Blasts, we usually just clip the wires and twist them together.

These switches provide ground for ignition during the following instances:
Neutral Switch - Grounded when light is on
Kickstand Switch - Grounded when up
Clutch - Grounded when pulled

In gear, kickstand up, clutch pulled = kickstand and clutch ground
in gear, kickstand down, clutch pulled = clutch ground
in gear, kickstand up, clutch released= kickstand ground
in gear, kickstand down, clutch released = no ground (dead)
In neutral = neutral ground (regardless of others)

Your ignition dies when in gear with the kickstand up and the clutch released. That means your kickstand is supposed to be providing the ground. I believe that is the source of your problem.

Turned out to be a corroded connection under the wire nut the previous owner had done... The vibration was making it gain and lose ground over and over... Now I'm just having tuning issues... The dude who had the bike put a single fire ignition setup on it.... It runs like crap right now

What ignition is it? Off the top of my head, there's Dynatek, Ultima, Daytona TwinTec and Crane Hi-4.

I've worked with all except the Daytona. What I don't have hands-on with the Daytona, I've done lots and lots of reading.

Hey Jet... It's a Crane Hi-4...

Everything works great now... =) this is an excellent bike... Love this forum for the help and member support... Just don't get any better than around here...

Glad to hear! If you run into any ignition issues, don't hesitate to hit me up. I've got one sitting on my workbench at home right now.

Jet you and a select few others on here are the first ones on my list to go to for information ... yaw are seriously overflowing with useful **** ... and I literally cannot learn enough about these bikes ... this S1 just takes the cake ... The XB is fun and silly to ride ... but the Lightning is just as different from everything else I've ridden, including the XB ... [up][up]

I became so confused I just scrolled to the bottom just to post a response that wont help in any way. But hey you ride a buell so its ok.:)

Hahaha ... I was fishing for responses to my question I posted in the beginning ... figured I might get a bite if I brough a few laughs along the way ..... well, that and I'm crazy anyway ... so I just acted myself for a little while ... :)
