s3 air intake

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

what kind of intake are you thinking of? Like a forcewinder? (90deg tube with a long air filter) or one of the other air filer housings?

Im not really following what you are asking, Im assuming you have the early version EFI? or Carb?

I see Super suckers, Forcewinders and other types availible for both carb and early EFI so apprently the mounts are there.

on all my carbed bikes with the Buell/sporty engines, the long breather bolts hold the carb body against the intake seal and support it, if you are using later XB heads the holes would merely support the intake, and you use the XB rockr covers with the top breathers which is better anyway,, so it all comes down to what you have for the intake, type of heads, breather setup, and type of aircleaner. or intake

On my tuber Buell i have now a forcewinder intake filter and housing but also the carbon fiber ham Can intake and air filter,

I do have the early EFI model and you are correct I am looking at a 90 degree with the filter on the end. my basic question is can I order a 1999 Harley sportster with EFI intake to fit my 1999 Buell S3 I have tried asking a cpl Harley dealers that sold Buell and they don't seem so crazy to help or answer questions

You SHOULD be able to,, I would need to see a picture of the flange to be sure. but i looked at a lot of those intakes myself and noted some come with an adapter, and theres differences between the CV carb, Mikunis and S&S carbs, but many of the filters advertise they fit the early EFI intakes on sportsters and Buells.

But i see one flaw in what you wrote just now....... 1999 Sportster with EFI intake to fit my 1999 Buell S3. unless im missing something Sportsters didnt get EFI until 2004. I have a 98 Sporty and my wife has a year 2000 sporty and both came stock with a CV carb. Your Buell should be EFI and i think they started in 1998 (my 97 S1 is carb)
but again, I see many kits advertised as fitting both. So there must be some cross over to the 3 screws that typically hold these on.

A picture of your intake flange to aircleaner and i could tell you for sure.

i REALLY like the looks of the forcewinder style intakes,, that 90 deg tube with a long air cleaner just looks great.

My problem is the crazy stupid prices. I did get a super sucker kit for one of my sporty projects off of ebay cheap, but the normal retail is stupid crazy expensive. the force winder like i said is very attractive to me for cettain bikes, but i couldnt find any deals on them and i REFUSE to pay $300 dollars plus for a aircleaner.
NOT GONNA HAPPEN. I was ready to make my own, the air cleaner itself is a K&N type and retails for $34 for just the filter, I have access to metal shops, machinists and aerospace welders, i think i can come up with some Alloy tube, either aluminum or stainless for a lot less than $300.

But finally i found a lightly used kit on Feebay for a $85 Buy it now and hit it on the spot..so problem solved. (for me at least) Id like to find one more for another project i have here. but crisis averted for the time being.

On a carbed bike, pipes and air cleaner changes need tuning. A EFI like yours should adjust itself, but if not it can be tuned and adjusted thru the ECM.

On my 1997 SI tuber i still have the CV carb and it has a CV performance tuning kit in it, as well as my wifes 2000 sporty has also the CV Performance kit, I recomend them to anyone with a CV carb, but eventually my Tuber will get the Mikuni HSR kit..

Thanks so much for all the info this is my first Harley type bike and its a bit to get used to since all I have ridden is sport bikes. I hope the pics I have attached make in on this post
