shifting issues

Just changed the oil in my 05xb12r and it ran fine on the freeway but when I got on city streets I was having trouble shifting. It was not shifting into 1st or 5th. Then when I down shifted the lever would move but it didn't feel like it really downshifted. Also, when I did get it into first at the stoplights the bike still wanted to roll forward. I had to keep the brake on. Any idea what the problem is???

Just checked my oil again. Its pretty high. Could that cause any of these issues?

did you change primary oil or motor or both . if you over filled primary ,shifting could get funky but clutch adj. clutch cable adj. and primary chain adj.will all make your bike shift like **** if they are not correct, and all are simple adjustments.

also did you use motorcycle oil thats made for a wet clutch???

I only changed the motor oil. And yeah I used synthetic bike oil.

so you did not change primary oil then you should read up on on all adjustments that i went over in last post and check fluid level and or change it with a good grade of 20-50 lube made for wet clutch use.its just kinda strange you would have shift problems after engine oil change keep us posted and good luck!

im not suggesting anything just makeing sure....but you do realize that the oil you drain from the engine is the trans oil, and the engine oil is drained from the swingarm right?

Yeah I drained the corrext oil. Apparently my primary cracked. Now I need a new primary cover but they are on backorder until november! I'm supposed to move back to school next weekend so idk what to do.

Anyone have a primary cover for sale???
