side scoops?

Does anyone ever take those scoops off or at least make them smaller? what do they do, are they actually needed as are? I think they look a bit goofy, they are so large.

Yeah I noticed a diff on my XB but with a liquid cooled motor why the heck are they so prominent?!? Air cooled with Scoops going to the motor makes more sense to me than HUGE scoops going to a motor that's liquid cooled anyway. I don't see scoops like that on other LC bikes? Stop slapping your faces and at least humor me with a decent response. Of course by now your eyes might be too swollen shut to even see this post. [confused]

I was thinking people would have put a radiator (bigger one maybe) on it somewhere and done away with the stupid looking things. I was going to buy one but I really don't like the look of them.

Serious answer, there are side mounted radiators under the scoops. Erik Buell explained that they had made them this way so the hot air being blown through the radiator wasn't exiting onto the already hot motor which is what happens with your standard front mounted radiators. The scoops channel air over the radiators and out the sides keeping the hot air away from the motor. Function over form.

Did a google search. And you probably could make them smaller. Or with significantly more work come up with a different cooling option (Larger radiator placed somewhere else. They do however double as frame guards in case of a drop. Like the pucks on the XB. Don't know why they didn't just slap a radiator in the middle. I guess buell likes to be different in every category! (which I can appreciate) But figured I'd actually answer my own question in case someone else was wondering.;)

doesn't the 1190 use a conventional large center mounted radiator?
Yeah, but also utilizes fans in the fairing. If I happened to own an 1125 I would certainly appreciate alternatives to the scoops. They did it with the Typhon. And Magpul managed to pull it off with their Ronin.

LOL repeated palm to face contact.

It's ok. We were all new once.

But that **** is funny.

Yes the pods can be modified and still retain the majority of the stock performance. I have seen many instances where they have also been relocated. HOWEVER. Modifying, and or relocating compromises the dual purpose of the scoops, mild crash protection/cooling. The plastic part of the pod retains much of the force created in a drop and distributes the load. Compared to a radiator or frame damage, they are cheaply replaced and or repaired.

The ronin had the radiators set up in the massive front section between the steering frame, *ahem I mean forks.

The typhoon had a similar radiator setup to the first 1190 bikes. Which in turn is similar to the current EBR.

The pods look pretty wild in person. In a good way. Gives it an almost feral alien nature. Pretty cool. I dig 'em.
