Okay, bear with me. I'm not new to bikes but new to Buell. I bought an XB12STT 2007 model secondhand in South Africa, Buell's aren't common here at all. The local Harley dealer gave it my 'first' service and when I questioned him about the 'lumpy' acceleration he said he had reset everything as per the manufacture's settings but that I would have to get used to the fact it would never be perfect. Before it was serviced it was smooth when cold but suffered a little throttle lag when warm. Now it's lumpy when cold and although the throttle lag has almost gone it still 'pops' through the airbox every so often and chokes off.
I'm used to riding thumpers (BMW Dakar, KTM etc) so I expected the Buell to be really smooth in comparison. I don't know anyone else here with a Buell and so I don't have any reference point, can anyone give me some clarity? Thanks.

Sounds like your dealer did something he shouldnt have. There is a power surge there in the 2000-2500 rev range but you do eventually get used to it. Acceleration should be very smooth on the Buell, I always get that popping through the airbox on deceleration, especially when engine breaking.

they probably didnt bottom out the TPS entirely before the reset. also, its running lean, but ECM tuning is pretty much the only way to cure that.

oh yea.....double check your static timing.
