hey guys. just finished up a pretty long ride, about hour or so. anyway my 03 9r is leaking some oil on the right side of the motor. its dripping down on the chin fairing. is this a common problem or any tips would be awesome. hopefully tomorrow i will have pics to help out. thanks again

Not sure but it could be your Rocker cover gaskets possibly the front.Unless the oil lines in the front are leaking or the oil cooler line seals.Check your[OIL] Filter first.Remove the Chin Spoiler and you could inspect it.[Cold Engine]if you wash it gently and go from there. If it's coming from up top, you will need to remove the Air box assembly put a rag in the Throttle bodys Velocity Stack(Funnel)looking air intake. The Bottom plate assembly has some Torx-27 screws and a clamp on the Stack. Once you can look down and hopefully see the top of the Engine area, you can get a better idea of what is going on.Wipe down the area before doing all that but if it's seepage more than likely you will need to really check out all necessary. Hoping it's not the Pushrod gaskets. If it is Don't just tighten it down UNLESS it's loose. You may have to clean it up and then take her out for a ride.If it turns out to be the top Rocker Cover gaskets do your self a favor,DO them both and get it over with.Take your time and post up on what you find.Welcome to the forum.*Jimi

I have the same problem, had it for almost a year now and no where I have taken it to can find the problem. I just haven't taken the time to tear everything down to replace gaskets and such.

I would bet its your rocker cover gasket. Had the same thing on my rear jug last year. Took forever to find the problem.

Yes it is Time comsuming especially the Rear one Due to you need to Pull off the Muffler and other items before you can,Rotate Down the Engine.I would also if you decide to do that replace the Exhaust Studs/gasket/nuts at least the Rear ones.before they break due to the Extreem heat issues on these Bikes. You can't just Tighten up the Rocker Covers because it will either crack Or leak worse, or Strip out the Threads. Always Take your time when doing this kind of work. Lable things if needed. Get a piece of Flat cardboard if you like and place the bolts in order for helping you to remember OR just to be better organized.Good Luck .*Jimi

so i just looked into my oil leak guys. and its a seal between the cam and the timing sensor. sucks and i called my local HD dealer and im looking at 100 or 200 to get it fixed. im a little to scared to mess with my timing.

Two rivets, remove pieces, remove outer plate.

Two screws, remove inner plate.

Scribe marks on sensor for later position.

Two studs, remove sensor.

One bolt, remove rotor.

There's the seal.

Replace, reverse,

…and you're done.

crap that is scary. and you dont have to mess with the cam gears? my buddy who is a flight mechanic in the navy dug into it today and pulled the cams out. is it to late to put everything back together and follow lamarchangel's step to fix it?
