Its like vibration that something is loose but its in the primary cover and i have no idea what could be wrong. I just changed the oil about 2-300 miles ago. I have also had a problem where about 2700rpms there is a louder rattle that goes away at 3 grand. Any ideas? What could be going wrong?

I have SAE 50 in the primary. I put that in cause how hot it was during the summer. I think with it cooling off alittle im just going to put 20w-50 back in and see how that goes. And check my chain. :)

CHecked the chain and it was loose. Tightened it up. Rattle still there. :\ any other thoughts? It sounds like vibration with something rattling against something at RPMs but it doesnt do it while sitting.

hmm not sure...when you go to drain it check your plug for excess shavings..if there are big chunks you might want to take the primary cover off and inspect

Ok UPDATE: While riding with some friends yesterday we were going pretty hard and having some fun. Were doing some rolling take offs as well and during the time my CEL would come on. Then go off later. Then come back on. Then go of.. NOTHING on the bike felt weird or unusual and the light has stayed off. Would the bike still have the code that it through if i hooked it up to ECMspy? Or you think i should just take the primary cover off and look around? What about the gasket?

At 1st I was like just a small rattling, you are aware that these motors make alot of noise right.
But with a CEL coming up, ya deff take a look at it.

At that low rpm it could be just about anything, cause below 3k I know my bike really shows off its HD roots.

Well i left my cable back at home 3 hours away. :\
My friends said it might have thrown a false knock code but given the fact that it "felt" like it was running fine for me makes me question. Theres a nice HD dealership an hour away. I might take it to them and see what they day :( But thats to much money.

if it's intermittent it's usually some sort of short/ground issue. just keep it in check and try to see if the rpm is in a certain spot when it comes on or if it's under hard throttle etc.

Well im hoping its just a battery problem but while riding today coming back after a mildly hard ride, i was just cruising through town and the bike died on me, while moving. twice. And since it was in gear and i was moving, twisting the throttle little brought her back to life. Then once she died while at a stop trying to take off.

Any more ideas? Battery? Bad ground (where?), Stator? Fuel Injectors? Fuel pump?
I dont like worrying about my baby!

Also the oil light is on before i start it now (hasnt use to be)

the oil light is always on before I start mine, it should be because the oil pump isn't being driven I believe.

my experience with my bike dying was an overheating problem because my cams were too advanced. it overheated my pump.

Im going on an hour ride down and hour back today for an interview at a local bike shop (ran by big brother bike shop an hour away). Good to stretch out the engine alittle, ill see if it gives me any problems then and if so, looks like im calling my friend to come get me.

Ya oil light should always be on if the key is set to on but motor isn't running.

I would have to bet a short somewhere.
I put a shift light in and one of the wires was rubbing on the fairing support which is grounded and caused some similar issues.
Rerouted the wire and put some heat shrink over it and all is good now.
But I got lucky and found it pretty easy.
There isn't alot of wiring on our bikes, but it is all pretty tightly twisted together.

Vibration/ sound your hearing in the primary could be the clutch. How many miles do you have on the bike.

14k

Went on my 2 hour ride today and the bike ran great, no hiccups, no dieing, anything.

I still think its just the battery going down. Ive charged it many times and its still resets my clock every now and then.
