I just want to start out by saying that I don't usually get on the internet to rant, but this has me so frustrated and I needed to vent to you guys.

Friday night I was on craigslist looking for Buell parts (surprise?). I happened to find a guy parting out a wrecked 2003 XB9R, so I clicked on his ad and saw the bike had a race pipe on it. Now I've been wanting a race pipe for a while and the wife has even given me the approval to spend the $400 everyone asking for them (I think she is just tired of hearing about race pipes,3d printers, another dirtbike, milling machine, whatever I happen to be wanting, so she usually says yes just to shut me up). However, just buying one for full price isn't any fun! Anyways, back to this craigslist ad. I asked the guy how much he wanted for the "muffler". A few minutes later, he texts back $140 shipped. I about jump off the couch! I kinda haggle, since the guy appears to just run a parting out business and isn't actually a Buell rider. I ask if its damaged, he says its in good shape. I get him to throw in some little stuff I've been looking for and I Paypal him the money and he promises to send it out Monday, Tuesday at the latest. For those of you who think they know where this is going, you are probably wrong...

Fast forward to Sunday night, when I get a text from the guy saying he has refunded my Paypal because he got the pipe off and the front was dented and had a hole in it, so he was throwing the pipe away. I immediately text back saying I'd still be interested in the pipe, especially if he was just tossing it and I offered to pay the cost of shipping for it. No response until Monday afternoon when he says he'll try to get it out of the trash and send me a pic. I get off work and receive a text of his empty trash can and him saying "sorry dude, trashman came before I got home".

So I'm not out any money, but a slightly damaged race pipe just got thrown away and it makes me sad and angry! and I could have had it for $30!! OK, rant over and sorry for possibly bumming some of you guys out.

The guy had a link to his facebook and had a video of it running and it sounded good. I'm thinking it was probably the very front part where the lower fairing mounts? Regardless, it would have been worth the price of shipping. It probably could have been fixed.

O well. Who wants 20 pounds worth of metal hanging off the bottom of their bike anyway?

Mate thats bollocks! he sold that locally or for more money! he would of text you and sorted out a fairer price no American i ever met throws money away! lol he suddenly realized what pipe he had!! i hate that people do that!!

I agree with Tone. About the guy selling it, not about Americans not throwing money.
I have a wife and 3kids. I throw money away ALL THE TIME!

well, it could have gone the other way as for the asking price. there are some that will ask a ridiculous amount for used parts and the description is far from what you get in the mail. and there is such right here on the forum...just saying. check out the thread on buyers/sellers rep, it's been a while since viewing it...lots of good folks there to buy your parts from.
