Ok, I've read pretty far back into this forum, so if there's another thread about this I'm sorry, and I'll delete this one. I was wanting to know about your spills. how it happened where it happened, and what the damage was. I'll start out with mine. I was bringing the bike back into the garage (the 2nd week I had it) back in Washington State. I was going no more than walking speed when the front tire slipped on the mud as I was turning and down she went. Snapped the clutch lever, and shifter peg and scratched the swingarm. Turned the clutch into a shorty (just behind the ball) and I ended up drilling a bolt through the shifter peg and using that as a temp until my new one came in.

The only spill i've ever had was on my Electra Glide.
I got 3rd place in a Bike Night contest, so me and my buddy's tied on one.

Alcohal + 600 Pound motorcycles = low siding at 15mph

Broke my hand and scratched up my rhino-liner. Everything else was fine.

Ok, let's go back to 1997. I had a glorious 130 mile ride up&down the California coast. I get home, call my GF, she wants to meet for dinner.so I jump back on my cb 750,head down the hwy .Its dark now,.couple miles down I see motorcycle break light on the side of the road.No one else any where! As I come up on this guy , he pulls out in front if me to do a U turn&. STOPS in the middle if the road! I tee-bone his front end @55mph. Both bikes are destroyed,he doesn't get a scratch. I fly a hund ft & snap my collar bone in2 places. I'm wearing an open face half helmet, jeans ,boots ,leather jacket&gloves...
I'm outta comission for 4 months.
Fast forward to summer of 08, im on my shiny 05buell.It's broad daylight , im going 40 in a 35. No one in front or behind. There's an 18 wheel semi in the left turn lane facing me.
I was going 50 until I saw the truck, cause I'm always looking out[mad]-he doesn't see me at all-he turns right in front of me at the last sec.-I lock up&start to drift -I'm going under those rear wheels!Fuk that! I ease off the brakes & try to get around the ass end.I wobble& high side-I do the supperman sliding on my chest shoulders&face-aLL my gear soaks it up beatifully. As I'm sliding I see the rear wheels within arms reach roll by.The driver keeps going, in fact a witness parked nearby chases him down to let him know he just took out a biker.Thank god for that, I would a been SOL on the insurance other wise
I could barley get up,but I did& rolled my bike to the side of the road-good ole adrenilin!
Now I've got a nice dent in the frame where the bar bashed it& the right side swing arm& headers are nice& roadrashed.
The truck driver rides a harley.

geese were do I start.... I will start with my first one on a street bike. I had just gotten back from a deployment and my ex wife had sold my first xb9r i had and left me and all kinds of stuff well I had some money tucked away that she did not know about so I bought me the first thing I could find for 4000 which was a 2001 Kawasaki zx9r. I had it only a few days when I was turning down my moms road well the top of her road was full of gravel and I turned on to the road leaned over and the bike came out from under me. damage was a busted crank case cover.

Wreck 2. Same bike I was new to riding in the central texas foot hills and met a bunch of guys that was going riding and I decided to go with them well I took right turn and again caught gravel and it slid out from under me. damage was scratched some plastic that was already scratched

wreck 3. I was on my 2000 m2 and I was headed to work on hwy 190 going to from killeen to ft hood doing the speed limit and I was about to switch lanes well when I looked to my right before switching the car in front of me came to a dead stop form 60 miles an hour well I tried to stop but instead I hit the guys back bumper and flipped over my handle bars. that time the damage was a busted oil filter, bent forks and a busted front fender.

Before street bikes I had many spills on dirt but that's part of riding on dirt you bust you but pick your bike up and dust it off and ride again.

Hit a big old pontaic in a parking lot once. I was young and stupid, driving like an asshole and there he was! Wrote off my 81 GPz 1100,(lime green, it was gorgeous!) fucked up my knee and the other guy's insurance bought me a new GPZ 750 for my trouble!! Had it two weeks and a guy turns right into a driveway with me beside him, down I go. Not to much damage but both accidents happened within seeing distance of each other and within sight of my apartment. I have not crashed on the street since, 26 years and counting. Wayne

I attempted to go on a long bike trip. I filled up by my house at 6:15am, and headed out. I got a mile down the road and lowsided cuz of cold, new tires on slippery dew covered road. I slid 100 feet down the road and thanks to full leathers, only had a scape on my hand. Needed a new handlebar, primary cover, clutch cable, shifter assembly, clutch lever, and mirror.

I've dropped bikes more times than I know what to do with. Most of it was my first bike, which was a giant dual sport when I was only 17 so nothing notable, usually just low speed spills with some broken turn signals and bent levers.

The most annoying was when my Triumph was parked in a friends driveway, and the angle of the driveway left my bike more vertical than normal. It was still perfectly stable for being parked, but when I went to strap some stuff onto my back seat before I left, the force from me pulling the bungie cord was just enough for the bike to pull to the right and fall over. Bent brake lever as usual, and my right peg snapped off. I had to ride 45 minutes home with my foot on the passenger peg.

December 20, 2009 - 2008 1125R

About 45 degrees outside and partly cloudy.

I went on a long ride through some back country roads. After taking a break myself and a friend took off and headed up a local twisty road. While a approaching a small town south of Fort Worth I was running into a turn a little wide on account of a truck hogging the road going the opposite direction.
Upon counter-steering into the turn, I had my entry speed and began to gas out of the corner when my Rear Shinko 005 (i know i know)broke loose on my so I tried to go off the corner and come back on. All was well until I hit a hard dip at 45mph and high sided, my self and the bike flipped about 3 times into a fence. I had a swollen ankle, sever bruise above my knee and a SEVERE headache which is why I chose to go to the hospital. No biggie, insurance sent me 5,000 bucks to upgrade my bike so I took FULL advantage of it. I wouldnt trade my 1125R for any other R in the world including Eslicks. I love it.

I was creepin old threads and saw the pics of that spill Dave, glad your ok and the damage was minimal [up]

hmmm
I have been down a few times over the past 27 years since my first street bike....
outside Oshawa on the 401 on my 1982 Yamaha 650 Heritage Special and some clown comes across 3 lanes to make a turn off and rides me onto the exit ramp where I lowside, grinding along the ashphalt at 80kph, gear took the brunt of it but my left knee lost aboot a 1/16" off the kneecap [sad], the bike lost left side lever, clutch and suffered serious roadrash

another time driving in Toronto and crossed some streetcar tracks like a frakkin' noob and my front tire slids out and down I go, again gear does its job[up], fractured wrist and bruised ego was my damage but my little 1978 Honda 400 SuperSport (modded into a nice cafe racer) snapped some vital bits off [down]

and lastly I had made a road trip from Toronto to London to visit family and friends. Being the cool mofo that I am, when I was pulling into my bestfriends place I decided to powerslide my FZ 750 into his driveway....

as he tells it "one second your pulling in then I hear this screech and your on your side with the bikes throttle screaming wide open, your 'walkman' had flown up in the air and you were just lying there with half the bike on you"
Talk aboot a entrance!

:D

Busted my ass in Nov '04 on a brand spankin' new HD Nighttrain when it's back tire hit some wet pine straw. I went ass over tea kettle in my front yard. All of the neighborhood kids were out playing and thought this was the funniest sight they had ever seen. Except for a bruised ego and some mud on the bike, nothing was damaged.

In May of '06, I was t-boned by a cager and thrown over 100 ft. In addition, I slid another 50 ft. Walked away from that one, but had some major road rash. My Nighttrain was totaled though. The cool part of this whole incident, was the witness to my accident was motorcycle cop. He was writing up a fender bender in the adjacent parking lot.

November last year, my buddy calls me says my his son is about to be born(my Godson) Its 11:30pm and the snow melted about a week earlier. Im anxious to get out so I jump on my bike for the 2 mile trip to the hospital. I get about two blocks away and decide to take the side street shortcut instead of taking the main road around, I enter the center turn lane and immediately hit a patch of ice I didnt see, death wobble till about 5mph and then She lowsided. Minor scuff to the fairing right behind the blinker, scratched break lever, and I think I rashed my pinky =O.

And I never even thought to count the millions of times I dumped a dirtbike back in Fresno, isnt that what they are for?

I've crashed my dirtbike a few times in Fresno too... seriously.

May 08 on my way into work one Saturday morning on my 96 Suzuki RF600R. I'm taking my time, it was a beautiful morning, especially warm, so I'm just wearing a T shirt and jeans. I ride up on a especially fun couple of switch back curves.

Normally, I would be going into the first turn about 50, and exiting the second turn at about 60, even though the speed limit was 35. EXCEPT this morning, I'm actually riding casually and doing less than 40. As I set up to go into the first turn a fullsized Toyota PU comes around the curve on my side of the road. He leaves me the dirty 2 foot on the outside edge of the pavement. I get slowed down the best I can but run out of pavement and ride onto the grass. I tried to make it on thru the curve, but the grass is wet, and the rear end starts coming around on me. I lay it down pretty gently in the grass, get a few scratches on the bottom half of the front fairing, bent my shifter leaver and shifter linkage.

He slowed down till I got up and then he sped off. As he speeds off I look into the turn as a Suburban drives by and does the same thing, and then I realize that they were dodging a 6 foot long snake laying across the road sunning.

I called my wife. When she got there I took the linkage rod off and straightened it using her hitch receiver, and then had to get the transmission freed up the jammed transmission and rode it back home. Only physical damage to myself was a shredded t-shirt and some bruises. I actually went home, changed clothes and went on into work.

2010, Feb 26th. Shoveled my back yard in Michigan to get my bike out of the walk in basement. Walked it through the snow to my neighbors driveway which is paved, but still a hill (better than my grass up to my driveway). I FINALLY shovel enough to push it to his driveway. See a couple dry spots not covered in packed snow so I start it up and figured I could floor it on the dry spots, and clutch the snow... HAHA funny now.

3/4 of the way up the drive, front tire slid out from underneath me at slower than walking speed. Bike is only 400lbs right? I jam my leg underneath her as she falls and she came to a rest nicely on my calf. NO damage... to the bike. Leg was bruised and slowly bleeding but who cares!

The amount of monetary damage I would do to my body to save my bike... it does not make sense.

I took my dad's dual sport while they were on holiday, rode it to school, wheelied the parking lot, hit a speed bump, skipped onto the lawn and into the fence with an audience. 20+ years ago. Fixed the lights and signals before he knew what happened......:D Try and ride a little smarter than that now.
cheers :D

Summer of '06. I was on an '02 Honda Interceptor that I'd had about 3 monthes. It wasn't my first street bike, but I'd been off of street bikes almost ten years. I was with a group riding the twisty roads down in Bixby, MO.

I didn't realize it at the time, but I wasn't paying much attention. I was just paying attention to the rear tire of the buddy I was following. He was twice the rider I was. The problem came when he decided to wick it up and leave me. I wasn't paying enough attention... Just noticed the corner too late and couldn't get it done. Lowsided in the grass and we both spun around pretty hard. I zip tied the whole front fairing back secure and rode it home. Progressive called it a total loss. I was so lucky that it happened in a smooth grassy area....

It was a really stupid mistake to make. I learned a valuable lesson though, that I won't forget. Now I won't even focus on that rider in front of me. I intentionally blur him out for the most part and focus on the next corner.

last summer i was on my way back from Gettysburg, PA looking for a new helmet to match my new buell...i looked down and noticed by gas light on so i decided to stop at the next gas station...i made a left turn and needed to make an almost immediate right...something caught my eye to the left and by the time i looked back the car in front of me had come to a complete stop...i locked it up and went down doing only about 15 mph

i got some road rash on my leg, knee, and arms and also shattered my left wrist...12 screws, a plate, and 9 months later im just about rdy to get back on

Thats rough for 15mph. I know people who have gone down over 120 and had less injury. Glad you decided to keep riding, but I know everytime you see break lights you might pucker for a couple days.
