Ok so I've put about 1300 miles on the CR since i bought it and the previous owner has had the charging system recall done. As I ride sometimes when im in city traffic when the bike gets a little warmer like 200+ the battery light would come on and i would see the voltage drop down and hover around 11.8-12.3v ok, while i was down Florida earlier this month the voltage dropped to as low as 11.3v and the bike was running at like 220-230 (dam tampa traffic) and ive been back up since the 10th and saw the battery light come on once while i was at a long light in town and hasnt been on since...until sunday morning at about 1:00am while on my way back from Easton, PA i took the back way home and as i crossed the Frenchtown bridge to go back into NJ the check engine light came on as well as the battery light and my first thought was stator went...ok i had 13miles to go and watched as the voltage slowly went down until about two miles from my house the system voltage warning came on and lost all guages and tried to make it home when about a mile later the power cut and i came to a stop and had to push her home...(an hour later and 2,000calories lighter i got home) so she is still under the factory warranty until October 20-something'th of this year and im taking it to the dealer to get work done. So my question is what should i do to prevent this from happening in the future when my warranty is up? Im obviously going to try to push for the 08 harness and if not should i just have them put a new stater or VR in and then later in the year ship the stater to custom rewind or is there another fix that will stop this inconvenience from happening? And what do you think actually failed? Is this what happens when the stater fails or is this a VR failure, or is it impossible to tell without taking a voltmeter to it?

Any help or advice is appreciated and until Lizzy is back on the road ill be enjoying the Blast :D...but seriously it sucks even tho the blast is a fun little scooter i want my baby back

After the Warranty is up you could send a Stator to Custom Rewind and the Voltage Regulator may need a small computer fan, some guys like RT performance has done things like that so post him with a message.Check out the 1125s area at the top of the page and read up on this. It's been somewhat of an issue for some time now.I think Custom Rewind is a good bet to remedy the Stator.Theres a link on some of the posts on here so may want ot find that here on this forum. Hopefully it's just the Regulator. Hook a meter to the battery terminals Freshly charged Battery First. Start the Bike, and watch the reading at idle. Then at 3200 RPMs.Check to see if theres a Terminal loose OR Load Test the Battery at an auto parts store before buying parts. Once you really kill any battery it needs a good slow charge 2amps to help it come back up to be used. Load Test 1st then go from there.*Jimi

That's a stator was getting week and then died a couple on badweb have got dealer to put in the lower output 08 stator and rotor.
I would go have them put a new stator on and then get a f00 regulator and remove the recall harness. I belive the rr is smoking the stators

The 08 deal is the stator, the rotor and the regulator. The system turns into a two segment (08) rather than a three segment (09 & 10) system.

As far as what can you do...nuthin..just get lucky.

My first stator went out at about 18,000+ miles. I'm on a second Buell stator, that so far is doing fine.
BUT...during taking things apart to do a valve adjustement last weekend, I noticed that the regulator harness wires weren't yellow any longer...they are kinda lime green...
This means they've gotten pretty warm. Everything seems to be working fine...but...
I sent my original stator to Custom Rewind for "fixing". It's sitting on the shelf...waiting its turn...

AND...as far as the valve adjustement...looks like I'll be in well over 300 dollars because one intake cam lobe is badly pitted..! New cam, two new followers and a bunch of work..!

Most money I've spent keeping a bike running....EVER. And I'm only at about 23,000 miles..!

Stater, voltage regulator and recall harness was fried on the bike, parts ordered and should have Lizzy back in about 2 weeks
Brian's Harley/Buell is doing the work and the tech that is working on her found that whoever did the recall harness when the previous owner had her did a horrible job, battery terminals were loose and wires were all over the place so pretty much I'm going to have a whole new charging system less the rotor.

Just called Brian's a couple minutes ago and found out that the stator is on backyards until the 5th of august and the voltage regulator and recall harness are from what I understood from the guy I spoke to should be there but still would have to wait until the stator gets there for her to be ready. I'm taking a guess and saying I should have her back by the 12th?

Just gave Brians a call again to see if they can get a stater shipped from another dealer, should hear back from them later today.

I know grand rapids hd has 3 09 stators and mine is shipping from hd overnight being I am stranded 700 miles from home.
Hope they get it tomorrow otherwise no wheels till Monday.
Fingers crossed so far knoxxville hd is doing a great job for me

yeah i read your post on badweb and got the idea to call
hopefully everything works out for you RT it was frustrating as hell when mine went only a mile from my house so i couldn't imagine how it would have been so far from home as you are. And since this happened at about 5,500 miles im probably going to look into an extended warranty for if it happens in the future or should i just let it end and be done with HD and stick with the custom rewind (hopefully the new winding is more durable for you if you go and get it redone with CR)

I am in a position where I just had to get it fixed I am frustrated as all hell.
There's a guy or trying the thick wire rewind.
There another company doing apprilla with some success with a thick wire rewind.

Ok new to this but hard to get advice anywhere.Have voltage problem, have changed VR and changed battery bike now starts but after test ride bike drops to 11.9-12v no warning lights but forum seems to state that i should be holding 14v.Bike has done 7000km,got the dreaded voltage alert,''May be stator prob any help would be appreciated.
[confused]

Not sure about harness but will be sending stator off to get rewound and and go from there, thanks

Lizzy should be all fixed up tomorrow and if shes done before 2 ill be picking her up, if not sunday or monday. On other news I just ordered the keyless gas cap from EBR in black. with ground shipping to NJ cost $182.00

got a call from Brian's HD and whoever put the rear blinker kit in just wire tied them in there......and their Buell tech found a bad relay and they don't have it in stock so it will be there monday and Lizzy should be done Monday or Tuesday, almost considering if theres another issue with my bike to just have them fix everything and trade someone for an 09/10 xb12r

Sorry to hear,my stator went in today totally toasted, thick wire rewind, hope to fix problem :(

hopefully you have some luck with the thick wire, because if so i will do that, if not i am going to start collecting the '08 parts

Thick wire worked, thick wire rewind and new VR,spare battery, awesome:D my sparky done an awesome job on the rewind, said original was poorly done.Run VR directly to battery as no need for the BS as he put it,in thick German accent, love the Germans for their Knowledge of all things Automotive:D
