Stripped almost all my teeth off my belt

I have a 2004 with a 2007 belt. Under 8,000 miles on the belt. Grabbed 2nd gear going around a sharp corner and had nothing. I've broken two belts before so I figured I had broken another one but when I looked at the bike the belt was still there it had just cleanly stripped over a hundred of the teeth off. I understand getting a rock on the corner of the belt and having it brake, but I have never seen this.

Has anyone seen this before

You mention that the belt is 2007, was it new in '07 for the 2004, or did you change pulleys to the newer tooth pitch/count? The old tubers had a 128 tooth belt, as do the newer xb's, but when the xb's where first introduced they had a tooth count of 135 I believe, and a pitch od 14mm vs 12mm for the tuber/new style.
I have seen this on some healthy/built Big bikes/Choppers.
Hope that Helps

04 was the first year of the update. The part number for my belt was superceded to the 2007 belt. Same teeth same pitch, just a shitty belt. Thank you for the response but from a person who works for a Harley dealership I wish Buell could produce reliability that the other brands can. I don't need the HP. When my bike is running I love it. But to anyone who buys a Buell and doesn't ride it like an old lady. GET A EXTENDED WARR. They have paid out over $3,500.00 in parts and labor to fix my bike.

Sounds/Looks like a manuf. defect to me. Never seen anything like that before!

I know mileage and mods dictate the life of a belt but do they have a shelf life? Reason I ask is I have an 04 12R with low mileage, I bought it from someone who put 1300 miles on it and stored it in a wharehouse since I bought it 6 months ago.

Oh yeah, since we are on the subject are there aftermarket belts available? What's the best if there are more than HD belts? Do our belts cross over to any other Harley models?

The sportster belt does cross over, in fact mine actually has the Bar-n-shield logo right on the belt.
