I am trying to find out if I can put the long swingarm and low suspension on an XB12S. Also wondering if the stock XB12S belt will fit correctly with the different swing arm and suspension if the rear sproket off of an 03 XB9 is used?

I don't know if it will work or not. Just trying to do things a little different than everyone else and trying new things.

Yes it can work but many mods need to be done.

I am currently going through this process and here us what will and won't work so far, swing arm will bolt up yes but that is about it.

You will need to get a new belt and pulleys since the '03 spricket and belts changed in '04 to a wider belt with a heavier tooth, so that will be needed for the added length, all oil lines will need to be modified, brake line will need to be lengthened, and the Scg suspension won't just bolt up it will be to short so you will need a stock shock or some type of adaptor to make the Scg shock work. Otherwise a stock shock with an adaptor will give you the stock height. Depending on how low you want to go the Scg may work if you want it slammed but then you will need to worry about the front height to match which isn't as easy.

Feel free to askanything else, one thing I am not sure of is if the front and rear pulleys ate the same off a S verus a Ss, you would have to have BPG check that one out for you.

Thank you for the information. I figured that there would have to be alot of mod work. I have an 04 XB12S. I am pretty sure that the 03 XB9 sproket is a little smaller that the XB12. It should give it some more on the top and a little less TQ. I am doing work to the motor also so it really shouldn't bother it to bad. But from what I got from your post is that the belt may not be as strong for the 03 as the 04. If I do put more power to it i'm not sure if the belt would hold. That would make it all for nothing. I actually do take this same bike to the track. Both drag and GP. I'm not that good at it but I enjoy it. It is looking like I may just have to stick with the swing arm and suspension mods.

The '03 sprocket won't work!!!

Yes it is a little smaller but the size of the belt teeth are different, also the width of the '04 is 2mm wider than the '03 so even the more reason you can't mix match the sprockets.

Do they make an after market sprocket for the '04 where it can be regeared and still keep the belt? I have not been able to find one. I did find a 6 speed trans for it. I don't want to do the chain conversion. If it is a choice between keeping the belt the way it is or having to do the chain I'll stick with the belt. I'll probably be asking more questions on doing this. Right now I'm in Afghanistan and I won't actually be doing this until I get home next year. I'm trying to get all the information now and get all the parts so I can get home and get it done so the bike is down as little time as possible.

Yes but it costs around $800 or so. Look at Trojan-horse.co.uk

Also thanks for doing what ever your job is in the military, I spent 6 years in the USMC as Infantry, and did two tours once to Fallujah, Iraq and the other Djibouti, Africa. I feel your pain. I did the same thing you are doing but with my truck.

Funny thing, I just left Ramadi, Iraq with 2 MEF and 1 MEF last year in June. Yes I'm army. 17 years MP. I know that just killed it. The whole MP thing. LOL. I'm working two projects at once. Doing a couple of things to the Suburban but mainly focusing on the bike.

Thank you for your service also. Semper Fi.
