So want to change my spark plugs in my 1125CR. But I was talking with a bunch of my car guy friends and we were talking about how important gaping is. I was considering getting on Ebr and emailing them about what they use on there race team and what they gap there plugs at for best performance. But I figured I'd ask you guys first and see if anyone has done this yet or asked already. Any info would be great thanks! [up]
 
you could try gapping them a little more than factory specs and see how it is, maybe .005"- .010" over. runs better great..if not close the gap a little.
 
I also have never changed them on a 1125 I don't need to drop the motor right? That's mainly why I'm asking about gapping because if I do have to drop the motor I don't want to do it multipul times
 
A larger spark gap will take more electricity to jump. If the coil isn't up to the task you get a weaker spark.
A smaller gap will have a stronger spark (with everything else equal)...
Changing the heat range may help but only if you have access to a dyno to tell.
If you aren't having any problems and the motor is stock, I would think a quality spec plug (insert opinion here;)) with a spec gap is your best bet.
 
It's not a stock Motor. I mean with keda k&n and ebr ECM there is alot of air and fuel moving though those cylinders and so your telling me I'd have to dyno it (after making it a bigger gap) and just see what my coil could handle? As long as the bike is running better too obviously.
 
Sorry, I meant stock motor as in internally. Changing the gap or heat range may help, but you'd need before and after dyno runs to see. With typical dyno error percentages at 3% and max wheel HP around 108(?), it will be very hard to see any advantage from doing that.
From what I've read the EBR ECM is tuned really closely to perfect with a filter and muffler added. But a dyno tune couldn't hurt anything but your wallet:D
If the compression is stock, and you aren't using some type power adder (Nitrous/ turbo) I believe a high quality stock type plug at stock gap would be perfect.
If you are using a power adder or higher compression, a SMALLER gap (for a stronger spark) and a colder heat range (to battle high cylinder pressure) is typical in car engines.
Then you can go 160mph!!;)
 
Haha ok thanks man. And no I have a 1125cr. I believe at ebr with their ECM and the keda rt-3 alone they were putting 138rwhp well 137.8. And 82 ftlb
