There have been covers heat, shields installed on the Ulysses in an effort to tame the heat. Does any of these work or does it hinder. Here are two pictures. one with and one without.

From the photos it look as if having the shield cuts the opening down to half size. So was it more for looks?
 
Go to special ops site they have the best heat blankets. Plus adding more fuel to the air/fuel mix with something like ecmspy will cool it down. The factory sets them too lean to help meet epa pollution specs. Adding just a little more fuel helps them run cooler and smoother.
 
the covers help guide the heat away from your legs and escape through the rear.
