We had another round of lay offs today. :( . 15 in March, 20 in April, 20 in June, 5 in August, 30 today. Next step is the doors will shut and no more job.

Kajer until your industry get shipped overseas.

Currently self employed and feel your pain Gator, as for Military Service, 8 years in the Navy, got out just before the massive cuts during the Clinton Years.

I feel you Gator, it's tough times right now folks. I only see them getting tougher. Be prepared to do what it takes to support your family. Be that multiple jobs, selling your bike, or living off the grid hunting and trading. If your doing well, help out those less fortunate.

Gator, I hope it doesn't come to that. That's why I left a 10yr. job and started at a Toyota Sub. Job Security was paramount. What is it you do & where?

i juat got layed off a couple weeks ago, it sucks, but least now i have time to finish paintin my car.

What Bordsnbikes said........[up]

Situation is much the same in the UK....will get worse before it gets better.

I hate Unions

Ditto, being in the Metro Detroit right at the heart of the problem. So yeah the Union is great!! Keep pushing a company for more, more, more....until the greed forces the doors closed. I could write a book on how bad the Union's are...not to mention violent.

My father builds houses/condo's. A few years ago he out bid a Union contract and got the job. Well....our house was broken into/shot at, our vehicles burned in the night, his work truck & trailer along with his equipment was put in one of the buildings he was working on and torched. So maybe im biased towards them. [smirk]

I have already started looking for another job. It just sucks after 12 years I would have to start all over again. Its not just my company its the whole industry I work in is falling apart so its not like I can go to another company and keep on. Im looking into Boarder Patrol and U.S.Customs Agencies. My wife works in Banking and says this will not get better until next fall.

ive been doin demolition for 3 years now and work is getting worse aand worse every year it seems like, i might take gatorbuells advice and switch professions.

My best friend is doing that. Best thing is anyone can do it!!! There are several steps to go through...and you'll probably have to move[sad] His initial class started with 160 applicants. After the preliminary exam there were 60 left. Then he did an interview board...maybe 40 left after that. Then a background check and drug test...dunno how many made the cut there. he's waiting on the results from his physical...if he passes that hes pretty much got it. ( his eyes are real bad [sad] ) I believe they start you around 38k ish, but they work a 50 odd hour work week...but you get overtime :) Sounds like a good gig[up] If you need info I can try and find what I can for contacting them, where you need to go etc.

Union worker here #162

11 years in, great pay and I've never missed a day i didn't want to work. Full supporter.

Sorry you guys are going thru ruff times, stay on the bike to save gas and keep your sanity.

Did you know that the communist party of the early 1900's wasn't the same communism we know today? It was all about workers rights and was the precursor to unions. Unions can be a great thing, if your in a good one. The ones geared towards a specific career, such as an electricians union, generally are better than one's that represent a hodge podge of careers, such as the teamsters or the like.

Hey, I was a teamster for a little while, but we weren't up to the shenanigans that mrdozer2you was talking about...

United Transportation Union
Local 1043

which is odd, because I should be in Local 239...the guys in 1043 piss me off and thats why I changed locals, or so I thought

Thanks, Im going to call the recruiter Friday when Im off and see what he says. I will take a bit of a pay cut if I do go but if push comes to shove I will have to do what I have to do. Im also looking a Customs because I will not have to move but the pay is a lot less.
