XB newbie here from northwest IL, been lurking around off and on since like September of last year...suppose I'd better say hello finally :D

I've been wanting a bike since I was probably 20 or so. Priorities (student loans, mortgage, etc!) sure can get in the way sometimes! I can distinctly remember the first time I laid eyes on a Buell that I had to have, but not for years to come. Was walking into one of the local casinos in probably 2003 or 2004 when I spotted it off to the side up front. I walked up to it and read on the handlebars and thought to myself "Firebolt? Huh, don't think I've ever seen one of those out and about pounding the streets." Before then the only Buells I'd seen around this big town were Blasts, which didn't get me too excited like this beauty did.

Fast forward a good 10 years. Finally squeezed in my MSF basic rider course before the cold mornings of fall came last year and just about aced the license test aside from 2 points for not getting the bike into first gear before my foot came down on the short stop test at speed [sad] Oh well, I did very well and found the course very helpful in getting off on the right foot. Got the M stamp on the ol' license and I'd spent all summer searching for just the right Buell and was ready, cash in hand for my very first bike. Found one about 45 minutes away from me, that I ended up taking home.

Basically stock 2003 XB9R with around 10k on the clock. Needless to say, I never really did winterize the bike, but took it out every nice day this winter that it was a good 40 degrees and snow/salt free roads! Loving it and I haven't even had the chance to ride in beautiful weather yet save for one November day when it was almost 70 out. Not going to go too crazy with modding it I don't think, but would really like to get my old PDA hooked up to it with ECMSpy so I can get an exhaust. Already has a K&N filter on it and I got an extra gutted XB12 muffler with the bike but haven't used it.

where in the northwest illinois? I'm in Grayslake during the summer time as im away at school during fall and spring time.

I guess I should've been more specific, the NW part of the state, not the NW 'burbs. Quad Cities to be exact, about 2.5 hours west of Chicago, where the Mississippi runs east to west [up]

Oh man that kinda sucks haha, but its still cool to know of more buells in Illinois. Good luck with your new bike and it looks great!

Thanks! I know, right? Seems like a lot of them are in the Chitown area, but I've seen a couple around town since I've had mine, but been colder out when I've passed by them, so haven't talked to any of the owners yet.

Yeah Im not to far from chicago and I don't really see that many buells. If I do see any they are usually just blasts, I think i've seen one other buell at close by bike meet up, but usually mine is the only one. Therefor, it gets all the attention [up]

There is 3 of us in platteville for school until summer hits! How far are you from the border?

Only attention I've really got so far is a lot of people telling me I've got a headlight out :p That and today a guy thought I had an '09 R1 because all he saw was my front end sitting at a stop light, which I can totally see the similarity after Googling that year of R1. What can I say, I don't keep up on the Jap scene...

It's about an hour and a half to Dubuque, that'll be a nice ride going up either side of the river. Get out on some more curves than usual!

I have learned not to try and explain the high low beam to anybody... I just say o shit thanks. Leave it at that!

I'm with nik. I'll actually be in platt all summer if you wanna meet up:D

side note take those fork reflectors off ha[up] Nice looking bike regardless!

Hey man congratulations! I had a similar experience with seeing my first Buell up close and deciding right then and there that I had to have one. I was 13 and my buddy's older brother had what I believe was an x1. 10 years later I finally got an xb13Ss. Congrats!
