I want exhaust but I dont want to mess with my computer, i dont wnat to screw anything up? I would like to gut the stock and put dual exit ports on it, (saw a thread for that). Is the computer/ECM a big issue or is there an exhaust that I dont have to do anything at all to? Thanks all Buelljek.
Please let me know what you think?!!?!

sorry 07 XB12R 1900 miles. More stock'er than that creepo in the van with no windows. :p

It should be fine. It will run lean in a few areas. Its your bike...personally I wouldn't purposely run my bike lean in fear of detonation problems. If you were to put a race map on ur bike it would help alot with the lean problem.

I'm running a hawk exhaust with the stock ecm and stock air filter. I asked Randy himself if he thought it could cause any damage to the engine and he said definitely not. I had originally asked him because I wanted to put the pipe on to ride 30 miles to a friends house where he was going to help me load a race map. We didn't end up getting it to work. I rode back out about a week later, then then he just let me borrow the cable to try at home and I still haven't managed to get it to load right. All of that started back around August and I've been riding with that exhaust on since. As long as you don't change out the air filter, there shouldn't be any way for more air to get into the engine for you to worry about what's coming out the other end.

If I'm revving up near the redline and let off the gas it'll pop pretty good, but not for normal riding. The only time that really happens is if I do a wheelie somewhere and ride it out until I'm almost at the redline, and then it'll pop until the engine slows me down enough or if I shift up a gear or two.

The problem with that is the problem might not show up in the course of a few months. With how easy it is to burn new maps to our bikes there really isn't any excuse to not push a little more fuel into the bike. Don't forget its not only detonation problems but also the bike will run cooler with the proper amount of fuel.

So why will it run lean dallasb? upthemaiden, thats all I am wanting to do is get a different sound, not too worried about speed (those days r gone)
It looks like there are so many people out there that have issues with thier bike after they invest hundreds if not thousands of dollars into them. I just want a lil more roar!

Buelljek send ur pipe to Randy Hawkins at Hawk performance and get a EBR ECM and be done.

The reason it goes lean is due to more air getting out of the motor. It needs more fuel if ur going to put a pipe on it.

I run a Jardine with a pro series filter and stock ecm and have no issues. It pops sometimes on deaccleration but that's it. It has great pull off the line and no hesitation while riding. I've seen several post about after market ecm making the bike run worse or confusion about remapping and then trying to go back to stock. Several of my friends run after market exhaust with stock ecm and have no issues, one of them is a certified Buell mechanic.[smirk]

Hook your bike up and watch the AFV's raise like crazy. With my hawk pipe it went from almost a perfect 100 (it was already tuned for my K&N and open airbox) it raised to nearly 115 with just adding a free flowing exhaust. It may not hurt the motor but it definitely isn't easier on the mechanicals to run a motor lean. Since your not really into making your bike a speed demon, keep in mind that fuel will help lubricate and cool the cylinder which leads to longer engine life.

Thats just my .02. You can do with it as you wish.

I would like to have the map on my bike. I'd enjoy the extra few HP and getting rid of the decel popping, not to mention the $50 I spent on the air filter is just going to waste sitting on my shelf. Both times we tried to load the race map onto my bike didn't work, and when I'd hit the starter you could hear the engine spinning, but it just wouldn't ignite. No that I have the cable it took me a while to even figure out the basics of ecmspy. Now that I've been trying to load the same map we did before it's telling me there are incompatability issues between the map and the ECM. On top of that plenty of people have talked about bricking ecms and you're supposed to load an eeprom, not burn a map and everything else I don't understand in the slightest.

Once you know what you're doing it's definitely easy to load the maps, but before you figure it out it can be a little intimidating, and in may cash rushing it is a bigger risk to my bike than just running the exhaust.

Hopefully I'll have it sorted out by spring, but when you're new to this stuff and somewhat computer illiterate, it's definitely not as easy as some people make it sound.

On a side note, if anyone has a race map for an 03' XB9 that they know runs on their bike and wants to share, I'd be happy to try it out instead of the normal 03 racemap that I've been trying. [up]

so confusing???!?!?!?! I still dont know just yet, I would hate to have my engine not running good, but want more sound.

My first Buell was an 03 with a race pipe and a K&N pretty much since day one. Sold that with 18k plus and never had to do ANY mechanical work.

It did have a good amount of popping during deceleration.

Buell number two is an SS with 6k miles and has had a Hawk and a K&N for 2k miles. With this one after about 500 miles i did do a tps reset.

So did you notice anything with the tps reset Riderdie?

@ upthemaiden or buelljek

If you guys need a hand with burning a map to your ecm PM me your number and I will give you a call. I can also give you instructions via email if you would rather do that...but it will be much easier to diagnose problems if we speak with each other.

I helped upthemaiden with his remap and am stumped by his bike. I have successfully remapped my 04xb12 with 2 different maps and had no problems so I'm confident it's not the cable or the computer (when I did it). I'm anxious to find out what the solution is on this bike...

Buelljek: Someone once told me that the later 07 models had the newer computers that ECMSpy didn't work well with. Now that I think of it, I helped another friend with his 07 and had similar problems. Can anyone confirm that this is the case with later 07's?
