i have a 04 firebolt 12 and when the weather hits 80+, the fan wont shut off. in stop and go traffic, the fan kicks on and burns my ass. i see bikes with wrapped pipes. does this help? is there a better oil cooler? im afraid of damaging engine when idling in traffic. how do i cool off?

Wrapping the headers will help with the heat and you can also get them ceramic coated for a different look. I would also look into a rh airscoop and possibly some heat shields from special ops. I have the rh aircoop on my 03' XB9R and my fan hardly ever runs, even in 90+ weather. Since these bikes are air cooled a "better" oil cooler will not help out a whole lot. Hope this helps.

the only mod was a jardine rt-1,but had the tps reset at dealer. the oil is synthetic 20w50. the plugs are origials with 10,000m.

The TPS reset will not solve your lean problem, you need a remap or a race ecm. Your hot because its running lean with that exhaust (most likely). ECMspy is a program your can use to remap your fuel but if your a novice with no experience then you need someone to help you. Where are you located (state).

i was taold the same at my local dealership and later on after talking to the parts guy he let it slip that they really didn't have any one confident enough to do it and the sad thing is the shop has a dyno that's why i downloaded ecmspy and figured i could break it as well as they could and as long as i can get it home and put stock epprom back in bike for warranty work they probbhably will never know

Race is just a remapped factory ECM

race ecm is the easy solution or get ecmspy and a race ecm map from someone and load it.

also, change your plugs...10000 miles is too much for stock ones!

A little tinkering with my ecmspy map made a world of difference.
The Jardine by itself was causing big backfires when downshifting.
Was actually afraid to open the airbox and make it worse.

If you can find a place that does harley work and get them an ecmspy cable
you might save yerself some bucks.
But there's usually some techie in yer neighborhood who's good at this.
A six pack and some company's always the cheapest route.
Careful with your tinkering.
These things can take time to get right.

You won't regret doing it right though!

Forgot to mention the rh scoop.
HUGE improvement on my bike!

We've been over 100°f most of this summer.
Fan only barely runs.
Seat's not hot as hell no more.
And there's no heat up under yer leg either.

Actually, the heat's now shot down toward my feet.
And ifin' yer moving @ slow speed, that can get a little toasty...
But I'll take that over a charred ass anytime...
