Hey All - Hope everyone had a Happy Holiday Season with family and friends!

Doing some winter projects on the an 07 XB12STT. Looking for a TPS Sensor, PN-P0279.3AA, (think this TPS was used on all Lightning models). It was obsoleted but I heard there was a substitute/replacement TPS that will work. Does anyone know if a replacement exists and where it could be purchased?

Nope. Only on the older bikes.

On a newer bike you need to backdate the shaft to the earlier style and then you can use the older TPS. The 2007 version has long since been discontinued.

I'm sure the 07 TPS was used in other applications. Its just going to take someone with a bunch of catalogs and time to whittle through them and discover "oh, its fits a 2007-2009 Peugeot Eurotrash 12345X".

Twin sells the kit to backdate to the early TPS, which is cheap and plentiful in the aftermarket as Mr. Barrett says.

most 2007 XB's can accept Duralast TPS213
a few 2007 XB's can accept Duralast TPS4129
the tang on the TB shaft is what determines which one crosses over. remove your TPS unit and compare.
France???? remove yours and check locally via auto parts joints. 95-98 BMW 318i had multiple TPS listings and one of them was direct 2007 XB replacement though i don't recall which one it is.
either way they're all in the $40 range. OEM lists for $97.90

Wow, quite the rabbit hole there. A bmw?! When I was pouring over parts catalogs at work I stuck to ford parts since most of the Fuel Injection parts on these seem to cross to ford stuff. Also because we're a ford dealer. Should've widened my search.

I think the TPS4129 is the one for the 2008-2010 models as the throttle body changed drastically since then.

Looking at this picture it looks like the end of the shaft has changed also. The connector obviously changed, but thats an easy hurdle to overcome.

Back in the day, I worked in a GM parts house and we used to have all of the AC Delco catalogs that called out all the different sensors and connectors with pics and specs. And, it was easy enough to order the connector/sensor and either put it in stock or return it to the distributor if it didnt work out.

Unless, the sensor manufacturer f-ed up assembling the sensor and built 1000 or so incorrectly, then offered Buell a smoking deal to get them off their hands. Its weird that they would move away from the previous TPS, especially considering how widely used it is in the aftermarket with all kinds of FI systems, let alone the volume that Ford used. There is also one from an early 80's Escort that looks like it has potential as the mounting holes are slotted so one may be able to get the orientation right by turning it all the way to the end of the adjuster.

On the flip side, there is no rule that says both bolts need to be used to mount the sensor. The ring around the middle may lock it in place and the single tab should be enough to prevent rotation. There are quite a few TPS sensors out there with only one mounting tab.

I guess that may be the case. I read it as John saying it fit the odd 07's. The late 06/07 TB is still an odd ball then? Like I said, when I had my 07 xb12x I spent a good bit of time trying to find an alternative to the one from HD (for $95) with no luck
 
I had this problem on my '06 Uly. I got a shaft from a member on another forum and got an earlier style tps installed .IMG_20210926_102114162.jpg

Did you buy Tootals throttle shaft? I'm often hesitant to jump on some of those conversations as most are from 10+ years ago and the person providing the parts or service has long since moved on. It looks like your posts are from 2021 though.

Twin motorcycles also sells a backdated shaft also to revert the 07 throttle body to the early style.

As I remember it, the 07 TPS was quite a bit more expensive than the early version, but that may have only been when the TPS was becoming discontinued. I wouldnt have paid attention if it was a "normal price". However, an eBay search of past transactions for the sensor shows them selling for well over $100.

I did get the shaft from Tootal. You can use a TPS from a '93 Mustang GT it is the same as the Buell early TPS. I got an early TPS from St. Paul but the Mustang works. I also changed my intake gaskets to the James blue while I was at it.

I found the Twin motorcycle after but his was quite a bit cheaper but built the same it is a quality piece.

How did you contact tootal? Bad weather? How long ago did you order the shaft?

My buddies S3 throttle shaft splintered and a screw made it into the intake… I think I’m going to replace the shaft on my 07 for piece of mind
