i have an 09 firebolt xb12r. the tranny ate itself today.... what would cause this? and all of the fluid level were to owners manual specs.

if it's an '09 I'd be taking it back to the dealer and getting a new trans under warranty

What exactly does ''ate itself'' mean. Did you already take it to the dealer?

Mine semi took a dump last fall. 2nd gear wouldn't hold when given power, would slip and catch and make some noises while shifting. The gear was broken and the dog was bent or broken. The exploding parts fell into the rest of the gears and though they didnt fail, they did get damaged. Took Harley 6 WEEKS to get my bike back to me. ******* horrible I tell you.

Everytime I read this topic I keep think you found out the hard way why that hooker as so much cheaper than the rest!

lol I've spotted the topic for the past few days and left it alone for fear of what I might find. finally decided to check it out.

^^Thats good ****.^^ In all seriousness my trans bumps out of third and grinds back in. Took it to a local shop. He told me sounds like a fork or dog isn't holding in gear. Possibly bent or loose. Wouldn't know for sure till he opened it up. And couldnt quote me a price. I will be skipping third altogether for a while.

Has anyone ever have shifting issues? Like you are downshifting then everything goes too smooth and no shifting of gears at all....I have been stuck at stoplights pushing and yanking on sifter and nothing..then suddenly everything is fine. I have removed the cover and saw nothing wrong to the eye. Fluid good, no metal shavings, nothing I can see. What gives? Makes me kinda dislike riding such a badass bike. Oh, it's an '07 xb12r if that matters. What fluid should I use? Everyone has a different idea so what do I choose? This transmission thing irks me, its got only 7500 miles..is that a lot? I don't know...

I had similar issues with mine yesterday and after talking to a bike shop they told me that there is a cltch disk that has rivets and springs in it and the rivets will separate and cause stupid and erratic shifting issues. downside is you have to take the clutch basket apart to do it.
