Translucent amber double bubble?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

Try google search, I found a few sites that had plenty of different color ZG DB for xb9r and xb12r. I got mine from Kneedraggers.com but they only have dark smoke and smoke.[smirk] Good Luck!

Ugh man I cant stand the look of a double bubble on Firebolts. I love the windscreens and im sure they help ALOT! But I just could do that to my baby, I love her too much!

I currently have a Zero Grav Touring translucent amber screen and i can say whole-heartedly that i think it's CRAP. i get severe wind sheering at almost any speed above 45 and it doesn't matter if I'm sitting upright or layin' down on the box. the DB might not look all that great but I've had them on other bikes and they work like a dream. JMHO

I started this post with a user name I can't get the password reset for some reason... [confused]

Any ways. UPDATE

You better mask that ZeroGravity doublebubble if you don't want the sun to melt your gauge bezels using the windscreen as a magnifying glass. Was damage in the first week and has gotten progressively worse. [down]

Anybody think Z.G. will have any conserns?

GSXdoubleR88ciNINJA,

I believe this problem only happens with the dark smoked (black) Double Bubble when the bike's tail is toward the sun (it happened to me). The shield acts a semi-parabolic mirror and focuses the sunlight on the upper dash frame (as pictured in Grr's photo). You're hunting after an amber screen, so I don't think it will affect you.

For anyone considering a dark ZG Double Bubble- To prevent the dash melt, take some ultra fine wet sanding paper (with running water) or fine steel wool and *lightly* buff the *inside* of the screen (the side facing your dash), just enough to take off the surface shine. Sanding the inside of the screen will diffuse the sunlight enough so it won't burn anything, but will hardly be noticeable at all cosmetically.

If your dash is already burned, you can find XB dashes on eBay pretty regularly. Just swap the dash face.

I spoke to the folks at ZG when this happened to me several years ago and they are indeed aware of this, and they admitted the problem occurs with the dark DB screen on other sportbike makes and models, too.

The above photo is from my bike. I just installed the Amber doublebubble March 1st, and that photo is the cumulative damage from the sun and amber screen till now.

O. GSXdoubleR88ciNINJA and Grrr. Thats me. I Can't get my password reset for GSX...

Damn. First time I've read or heard of that happening to an amber DB. They should include a warning sticker on the screen when you buy it. I'm surprised ZG hasn't pulled the product or changed the design.
