Transmission compatability

is the 2003 XB9R transmission the same as the 2004 XB12R?

yes, tho the primary chain/sprockets are different, the transmission itself is the same.

So, I can take the internal transmission parts from a 2004 XB12R (the 2 shafts with all the gears on them) and drop them into my 2003 XB9R case and use all the original internal and external parts from my XB9R with no problem?

Near as I can tell. Yes.

At some point, the shift shaft size changed, I believe it was 06, but that wouldn't even be a issue if you just reused yours, the internal gears went to a helical cut gears late in production, IIRC around 08. other than those two changes, I'm not aware of any others. Input shaft splines didn't change that I'm aware of and output shaft splines didn't change that I'm aware of.
