trouble shifting

Hey BPG, this is my first request for you. I have a 08 XB12R 300km, about (170 miles)on the clock. I have flipped the shifter over to a race pattern (one up, four down) and the shift lever is hanging up. It feels almost like a weak return spring. The shift lever and linkages all move free but the shift shaft hangs up, it'll shift into gear but sometimes it won't return. The dealer told me that there is a bushing behind the primary cover in the crankcase that may not be seated properly and needs to be knocked into place. Any ideas would be appreciated.
