I've worked over the past week to try to convert my DDFI-II (IB310) ecm from Alpha-N to Speed/Density. It involves replacing the TPS signal with a MAP sensor signal. Both TPS and MAP sensors commonly have 0-5V signals so electronically it works. Fueling and ignition programming has to change since the management is based on manifold pressure vs rpm instead of throttle position vs. rpm.
I got the bike to idle and the manifold pressure rapidly fluctuates between ~55kPa and 90kPa. The tuning works out for steady state conditions but not for changes in the throttle position. The accel enrichment function uses a delta TPS over 10 milliseconds to activate accel enrichment. I have to set the delta TPS value so high to prevent constant accel enrichment at low rpm that it does not recognize the conditions where accel enrichment is needed.
The DDFI-III ecm is able to have both TPS and MAP sensor inputs and you can define both ignition timing and fueling based on them. Accel enrichment can still be based on a delta TPS.
All of this for more fine tuning of my turbo setup. It runs well with the DDFI-II Alpha-N setup but could run even better with the DDFI-III setup for a hybrid Alpha-N and Speed/Density system.
