Hi there. I was wondering if anyone had some input on tuning of my 2005 xb12r. It has a freshly repacked jardine rt-1 and a k&n air filter. It has always ran great but I feel I could get more out of it. How can I reset my tps on this year. Also it does back pop in the exhaust. Re mapping the ecm would probably fix this, but would installing the race ecm programmed for the pipe and filter do this as well? Thanks

You will need ecmspy and a cable. Please use the search function as this topic has been covered many times. With that being said here is a link to a set of videos that will help you with numerous things including TPS reset.

The race map will get you close...but it won't be perfect. The race maps will certainly be much better than a stock map. EBR sells a plug n play ecm for your pipe for $250 plus shipping . You can also use ecmspy with the cable and do a custom tune which really isn't hard if you take your time and be smart about it.

How to tune

Welcome to the forum and if you need any help don't hesitate to post your questions.

dont waste your time or money on the ecm spyware cable unless u no what your doin ,check out hawk mufflers hes great and he will tune your stock ecm for u , just tell him what upgrades u have and how u plan on riding ur bike ,oh and its way cheaper then that bs 250$ebr race ecm ,its just a overpriced stock ecm reprogrammed, the way dallassb is telling u to go is the expensive garbage way DONT DOIT .

OK I'm just going to step in here. Info that dallasb gave was correct and helpful.

First of all, if you do an intake AND exhaust mod, you should always remap. A ECMspy cable is something that you should buy ASAP. Even if it's just to do a TPS reset, it's worth it. We can provide you with a free race map that will get you closer to optimal AFV, but it will still pop a little. Someone may even have a tuning Jardine map to share with you. The EBR ECM is a good start and it's a WAY better option than the cheapest pipe you could possibly buy (hawk).

I would just like to say that I would take a Jardine over a hawk any day.

And another thing, even if one DID go the hawk route, you would still have to buy a ECMspy cable to do a TPS reset.

na i dont even no anyone who gos to the jersey shore but lil juice heads from staten island ,real jersey people go to the hamptons

Such hostility and anger.....it's really not needed around here Jason. This board is a pretty close-knit group of people, and we try to suggest only things that we all have sufficient experience with to back up.

First, if you haven't specifically tuned your hawk setup to your environment, then you're missing potential power gains. Randy's maps may work great for where he lives, but it's very unlikely they are perfectly suited to NJ. His ECM flash is a great starting point for tuning, but it shouldn't be the only thing you do if you're trying to squeeze all the power you can out of these "under powered" engines. With this in mind, it's clear that you haven't used the full potential of the ECM cable. I'm not sure why you're claiming that you have.

Second, the EBR ECM is just as likely to produce equal amounts of power as Randy's ECM flash with the same exhaust. This is because both are maps created in a specific place. If where you live is more similar to one over the other, then you're more likely to have success with that method. In fact, if you have a riding style that keeps you high in the RPMs, it's likely that the EBR ECM will be better for you. You say you made more power with the Hawk system than Jardine/EBR ECM, so please provide those dyno sheets. Until then, your word is no more valuable than any other person here.

Third, and finally, I've personally blown away quite a few rice rockets off the line. I don't ride that often at 100+, so I really only need my bike to be quick until that point. I also don't restrict my riding to a straight line, so the handling capabilities of the motorcycle platform are important to me. As they are to you, I'm sure, since you claim to own a Buell.

Above all else, Jason, I'd suggest that you put a bit more thought into what you say. Try to keep it respectful. We're all here to help one another. Your input is as important as mine, Dave's, Dallas', or anyone else's so long as you keep it honest, reasonable, and respectful. You also may want to avoid the constant Buell-bashing, given that most of us here are enthusiasts.

Have a great day.

wait but lets not get away from the point ,and that is not to waste money ,take it from me i have its not worth it that is my only point

oh yeah and someone should let maddog see all the post about people blowing there ecm's cause they claim its just download n go ,if u dont have a dyno ,and a wide band bong and a lot of no how then leave it alone it will wind up costing u more

octo your right but he/maddog doesnt have to buy a new exhaust he already has that so he wont have to spend the 200$ just get his ecm tuned which randi will probably doit for free

@08

FYI I do have a hawk exhaust on my bike. I also have hawks map flashed to my ecm. However, like octo said...the map designed for Georgia doesn't necessarily mean it will work well in jersey. If you would take the time to talk to Randy he will personally tell you that it is JUST A STARTING POINT. Since this thread has been hijacked for absolutely no reason lets get back to the point and try to help out a fellow bueller with a relevant question.

You don't need a dyno or a WB O2 sensor. Both will make the process faster, but we're all here because we love riding our Buells, so datalog rides shouldn't be difficult (or painful) for anyone. The NB system is totally sufficient for datalogging and tuning with any of the software packages out there.

Also, I work with a lot of people on tuning their bikes. I have yet to hear from a person who has bricked their ECM irreversibly. As with all things, it's important that you do the necessary research before beginning the project, but it really is not very hard. If your ECM is going to brick by flashing a race map to it, then it's going to brick when Randy does the same. He does not do or use anything special to apply his race maps. Any person with a functioning cable and computer can do the same.

This is getting out of hand. Please, 08super, you've made your point. Thank you for your opinion. You are a true god of motorcycles and your information is worth more than you know.

yes u are right but u guys are talking about sea level as if your tuning a 1000hp dragster, these bike dont have that in them u can tweek all u want it only gonna b a difference of maybe 5hp if your a great tuner and done mind running your motor on the lean side .....then maybe 10 hp but thats it and thats not enough to cry about

thats a good pic and your right dave the argument was fun while it lasted but its old now next topic

i apolgize fellas im highly competitive i have a disease called called u cant beat me and it came out on this forum:D

from one supermoto racer to the other.....

speed IS in the handling. you should know that better than most. c'mon dude.

also, it appears youre thinking tuning it lean will get ya more power than not. this is incorrect.

While you all keep arguing... maddog, here's your cheapest option, which will keep you going strong and loud:

Buy an ECMSpy cable off eBay. Got mine for around $40 shipped. Dowload ECMSpy software, if you cannot download it for free, send me a PM and I will e-mail it to you. I got the software when it was free, therefore I can give it to who I want for free.

ECMSpy is a powerful tool and can do anything you want to do to the ECM on your Buell. From TPS resets (approximately 5 minutes of your time with ECMSpy, but will run you $60+ at the HD Dealer) to cold-start enrichment settings, to testing your cooling fan, injectors, etc., to a full tune of your bike. ECMSpy really does it all.

Download MegaLogViewer. I think there is other logging software out there, but this is the one I use, know, and love, so I recommend it. This should also be free, if not, PM me, I'll try to get it to you.

Read this thread to learn all you need to know about logging your rides to get the best tune out of your bike. With the stock O2 sensor, you'll get a great tune, I know, I've done it (with a K&N and Carbon Fiber Jardine). With a wideband O2, you may get better results than on a dyno if you do it properly, because the air you're riding through on a dyno is not what you'll be riding through on the street.

If you want my map to get you started, or to keep and use as-is (works great for me) let me know.

Lastly, about your Jardine. I've heard some things about aluminum Jardine pipes falling apart and off the bike. The CF and Titanium ones are not really prone to this, however. If yours is aluminum, I suggest following the recommended guidelines of repacking it every 5,000 miles. Understandably, this can be annoying, but it's probably a good precaution. If you've got CF or Ti, it seems like you don't need to worry as much.

If you've got more questions, we're all here to help... well... at least most of us are. I guess some are here just to rant.
