I'm finally able to start the rebuild on my '03 Xb9s. I have called Harley Davidson and they basically gave me the run around. Why is Buell the red headed stepchild?!?![confused] Its a hell of a bike and they act like they wish the bikes were never made in the 1st place!!! I'd really like some info if anybody knows what is and isn't universal. Any help is greatly appreciated. -CB on his XB

the cosmetic differences are obvious, IE seats, headlight, etc. Other than that, belt, sprockets and tensioner pulley, belt guards and sprocket cover. I just found out the other day that the dashes mount differently between 03 and 04. Other than that, I don't know of any other differences between a 03 9s and a 04 9R

Hey firefighter, are you saying those parts ARE universal? I'm looking for basically everything up front. Bars, controls, ignition, fender, L & R modules, and a few other parts. The wiring connector for the headlights to the the wiring harness is halfway destroyed, so I still don't know what the best course of action for that is. The hardest thing for me to find so far have been the L & R modules for mounting everything. I also need the throttle assembly, is that universal between the 2?

I couldn't believe it. It sat for 2 months w/ the key bent in the ignition, after I removed it and put my spare in, she cranked right up even though the throttle was loose (no pull back on it, where I move the throttle to, it stays). Found a short and after process of elimination discovered that 2 things definately need to be replaced. The ignition (which was cracked) and the plug that connects the headlights to the wiring harness was essentially sheared in 1/2. Still not quite sure what to do w/ the plug/harness.

No, those are the parts that are not universal. Bars aren't going to work for you, controls will, fender will, the R has a different front end so it doesn't have L&R modules, R headlights are different, but I don't know if the harness for them is different or not.

I know the modules aren't and I'm tempted to just fabricate some myself.;) I also thought the bars might be. keyword MIGHT, but that means I'm goin to replace original bars w/ a set of Clubmans or something. My hand would tend to go to sleep on longer rides anyway. Also if anybody has the time, I really need a measurement for spacing between the middle of the chin spoiler to the middle tread of front tire. I'm afraid everything shifted in from collision, but won't know w/out a measurement, preferably from a Lightning b/c the spacing might be different between the S & R.

The R has "clipons" They are a single short bar for each side bolted through the triple tree. The S has a single handle bar, right to left that is clamped to the triple tree.
